hello people, well today i have mostly been- polishing!

Found an old Mg Metro rocker cover, which i though, oww, that would look nice on my new cylinder head. So i went down to halfrauds, bought some paints etc to get it looking nice. started sanding it down with some dry, wet n dry and it started to come up really nice!! So i think i will keep it brushed aluminium finish. BUT what can i do to stop the ally from dulling/looking naff?

I thought about coating it in some tough petrol proof laquer, but really not sure!!

This is what it looks like now, i still need to give it a few more goings over with a
really really fine wet n dry, then a few coats of Autosol and it should be ready!

Also do these rocker covers fit over the higher ratio 1.5.1 rockers?

Yea it does look funky, and that is quite similar to how it is going to look once finished, but it is getting it to stay like that 6 months after being under my bonnet

because every 12 months i have to change over headlights, fit a cat, service ever 3K miles, polish wheels every week, work somewhere inbetween and fix other little problems lol!!

I have just covered the easiest bit to sand in laquer to see what it comes up like, i did think about going totally wierd and spraying it metal flake purple, which would of looked totally ACE! but don't know what temperature it lasts up to!

Also in the blu cross sale i bought some Teng tools!! couple of spanners and a 1/2 extension bar, came to something like £4 BARGAIN!

oh, and polishing raw alumium involves some P320, not spit and polish!!

you have to buy 2 300ml aerosols to get 1 free

AHHH!! that explains why he sent me back to get more laquer or paint then! duur

You need one of those attachments for your drill like I've got, a polishing bonnet I think they're called. Best fiver I ever spent and still got ungreased elbows to prove it.

Engines don't get all that hot to be honest, especially the rocker cover.. Almost any paint will last (I sprayed mine when it was dirty with cheap black spray paint from local DIY place, and aside from where you whack it with a hammer or where there was a mount of sand before spraying, it doesnt come off..)

Ahh.. thats VERY good to hear!!

mite have to get the purple metal flake after all then!! hehe not really unless i decide to mod my rocker cover i have now..

anyways, because i kno u r all so interested. i have slapped a quick coat of laquer onto the ally, and it is coming out nice, so looked like a coat of laquer will do the job nicely.
