Best of all keep a look out for the little old lady who wants to sell her mint and barely used Mini and doesn't want much for it. Well miracles do happen sometimes?

you know, i really don't like that, as you are ripping somebody off, a little old lady. there IS a difference between a good bargain, and taking a car worth ALOT more than you paid for it...your not slick or clever, you took advantage of somebody who doesn't know better.
by the way, this isn't directed at you taffy, just a general rant that is now over =]

CMF

Sorry but if shes quite happy to sell it for a good price than that's up to her! She could easily do a bit of reseach to find out how much it's worth before selling it. She may just decide she doesn't really need the money but just wants to get rid of the car as she doesn't use it anymore. Taffy was just sugesting a good way of getting a good Mini at a good price. Not having a go at you but it's up to the seller what price they sell it for, not anyone else.

That's gone up since I was a lad...Maybe you need to call around some insurers?! Is that the best quote you've had?? I'd have thought about half that!

Sounds about right to me, may it able to get it a bit cheaper than that if you shop around.

You've got to remeber that to an insurer, a 17 year old male with very little driving experience and has only just passed is very high risk to them. I don't like to say this but you can still quite easily kill someone in a 998.

Thanks Mini_Magic and I was only making a kind of tongue in cheek generalisation that sometimes you can get lucky and someone just wants rid of their car, wants it to go to a good home and yet doesn't really want a great deal of money for it. I know these things do happen because not everyone tries to get the maximum amount of cash for their cars or possessions. Okay it's very rare these days, but you never know and I certainly wasn't suggesting that you should go and rip-off little old ladies into parting with their stuff for peanuts.

Anyway if someone (like a little old lady) gave you a real gift horse of a Mini, would you honestly then offer her far more because she wasn't selling it for enough cash? Okay you may say something like "are you sure?" or whatever, but I imagine you'd take up the offer and then run?

No worries and yes we should be there although we won't be in the Mini because that's not ready yet.

Hopefully give that a run to Castle Combe at the end of the year.

It's an automatic Mini, so no clutch or gears to select because it does it all itself when in the drive position.
