smoother isnt ALWAYS better

Yup, airflow over a polished surface is not as great as airflow over a bed of air. The pitted finish on the casting provides this. To be honest though, wouldnt it be alot easier to fabricate a new manifold? you have all the measurments you need from the original, home casting just seems very long winded and unnessecary. Could be hit or miss with such a complex casting, when your new to it all. Get the welder out!

If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. And my delete button will make sure of this!

Besides, there have been plenty of photos of planning and doing throughout the last few pages. My mum says she'd like to see you do better!

Cheers Dog and Jammy

to be honest, I'm going to give the casting a pop, because it's actually going to work out cheaper to make a furnace, moulds, and fuel it all - than it would be to buy a reasonable TIG welder, and all the right sized pipes/sheets. And at least with casting, if I do *male chicken* it all up, I've not wasted more than about £50... or I could just re-melt it, and start again! Now that's something you can't do with TIG :gimme:

plus...... there'll be lots of fire!!

for all those peeps who are getting annoyed that I'm "not doing anything"....

YOU try making any goddamn progress with NO free spending money, barely any free time, a gf's dad who is seriously ill, a dead-end job which pays minimum and has shifts which are at silly times (and yes, I have been trying for other jobs... lots of them!)

I also don't have a garage with power - I have a storage container about a mile from where I stay (I am technically homeless) The only place I can get power, is if I do all my work on a dusty, gravel driveway, which is shared with the neighbours, and has another neighbours VW series 3 thingy there, which he's also trying to rebuild

So finally, the reason I'm making all my tools, is simply because, unlike quite a few people on here who are nay-saying me, I don't [b]HAVE[b/] a disposable income to spend on niceities like new tools!

On a side-note, finally got some 0.6mm wire for my welder (which, was found in a mates garden after his dad threw it out) so once I've made a new sheild for the tip, I may actually have a working welder! :)
