i have a chance to buy some cooper s rods and i was wondering how much they were worth, as i have heard they can go for alot.


any help appreciated

About 300-400 gorillas second hand I think.
New can cost anything from 600-700.

Depends which S rods you wanted - I think they came in different sizes?

i dont think they came in different sizes just the different numbers were from different cars like the aeg... were from a midget i think.

Yea, I'm sure they were all the same size, just didn't grades of steel.

The 970 S rods were shorter & as they are a bit like rocking horse droppingg with hens teeth in tend to be 'a tad' more expensive than the 1071/1275 ones. I would imagine a good few hundred for the non 970 ones, though.

Depends on condition. Since these are available today as a faithful reproduction in original spec material from original tooling and to original tollerances the only additional value in a classic second hand one is nostalgia value from those renovating a very original condition Cooper or producing a historic class race or rally engine or something like that. For those limited numbers of people there would be a premium on an excellent condition second hand part but if there's even the slightest wear or damage then it's going to be worth less than the reproduction. The repro rods retail at about £110 each for the shorter 970 S version (the more rare of the two) and roughly the same for the longer ones, it's only a difference in the finish machining that seperates the two after all. That should give you a guide to work to.

Oops! It's the block that's shorter, not the rods - the rods are indeed longer (5.875" for the 970 S and 5.75" for every other A series rod). According to Vizard, the S blocks were all machined from the same casting though - they just lopped a bit more off the top for the 970 (and 1071) blocks.

I always thought that a set of Cooper S rods were roughly the same value as a Cooper S disc brake setup.
