Been here for a year and never posted about my car. Now I know why.

I'll start off slowly and add mroe as I go.

Stacy was purchased on 3rd of October 2003 to be restored to a custom mini that I wanted within a year and a half.

The ad went something like this: Mini '90, 1.3 MG engine w/ Weber 45, 13" alloys, sunroof, yellow, good condition.

When I went to look at it I was a mini amateur so didn't know much. The carb was a weber but didn't look like a 45! The car itself looked in quite good condition with practiclaly no rust and drove very nicely.

The car had a bit of filler on the scuttle but it didn't bother me too much, the panels looked good enough, and engine ran quite well (albeit with a weak spot).

Picture of stacy at previous owners:

She had really nice original 13" wheels (100+ 5 spoke wheels) in mint A008R rubber. Inside the interior was very plain except for the lovely and extremely comfy integra seats.

Didn't get too bothered since I had plans to redo the interior regardless!

She had a bit of rust on the bum but it was only on the bootlid so that's okay!

When finally purchased (for 1300 pounds, down from sellers 1500, before that he had it up for 2500!!! Before the CD player was stolen and one of the alloys kerbed).

Since then I've had nothing but problems.

To name a few:

Butchered rear parcel shelf

Registration showed FIVE previous owners, and that it at one point was a rental car... Great :erm:

What's more I noticed a few tiny dings on the roof (VERY minor dents but very annoying)...

After some further research, turns out carb was a rather cheap 32/34 Weber DTML carb (good, but not what I wanted and definitely not a 45!) sitting on nothing but a standard Metro engine!

Also bits of glass everywhere in the carpet inside from when the car was broken into before I had it... I STILL find bits of glass inside the car, 1.5 years later!!!

It was getting much worse, but I didn't pout, I was ready to make her great!!

Then the following happened...

The last I saw of her like this:

A month after I had purchased her, the alloys were stolen one night, the car resting on blocks of wood. They broke into the boot (which incidentally didnt lock), found a car jack I had there under the carpet, along with some wheel keys etc. jcked car up by the floors (denting both severely), dinged the doors while at it, and that's the last I saw of them

(well actually I did see the wheels one time on another mini, but it was driving past too fast for me to see the number plates. Positively they were my wheels since they were very dodgily resprayed black. I still have hope that someday I'll find the *****.)

That was hardly motivating, and so instead of spending money on making her more like my dream car, I ended up spending christmas money on a set of wheels. VERY hard to find 12" wheels around here. What I ended up getting was this 76 Clubman 1275GT which had metro pepperpots.

At the time I didn't know they needed the suicide spacers (which were instlaled on the clubman incidentally so at least I didn't have to pay for them)

The wheels came with quite decent Falken rubber, albeit in the shitty 155 size...

Either way the car was on 4 wheels!

Since then problems increased more and more! Both rear wheel cylinders gave up, leaking out all the fluid.

Where the bastards jacked the car up there is now rust and a tiny crack (although behind it there's metal which leads me to believe that there's a dodgy patch been done there at some point). Not too worried bout floor rust till they fall off right now as I gave up caring bout such things. MOT here is no problem..

Engine started knocking very hard, and turned out the tiebar bolt thread in the block was ripped apart. Eventually ended up getting a repair kit which is great but hte knocking is still there (shagged subby mounts + engine mounts I guess).

Also engines started leaking more oil than before, from the diff output seals, so only really leaks when the oil moves to the back of the engine (jacking front up or parked uphill)

Weak spots increased and the engine was running very rich by the sparkplug's look, and so the weber went off and on went the HS4 from the GT. Along with a free DTM exhaust system that I found in a junkyard. Too bad it didnt have any sort of mounting points that matched with the car, didn't match with the manifold properly and was kinda kinked in places. Either way it's better than the crappy std exhaust that was there before.

The HS4 had its own problems, running too fast at idle (sticking butterfly) etc. etc. whatever... the car started more or less. Then one day ignition leads went (still don't have a decent set!! :saywhat: )

The suspension then fcked up (rear lower on one side than the other), the front was already messed up and wheels rubbed the arches.

The arches were fixed recently (stil in process really) by cutting them with a grinder. I'm gonna probably leave the lip out since I can't be bothered right now and it's only missing on the front part of the arch..

The rear suspension was lowered on both sides by cutting the trumpets, but now it's gone even lower on one side and it rubs on bumps, so that's gotta be changed too!

Headlamp bowls need replacng since they cracked where the retaining clip is to screw in and hold on the rings (so one of the rings fell offo n the highway...)

Recently found out that floors where seats were mounted are prtty crappy condition seeing as there is a bit of rust and a tiny crack due to the arses not being able to make a hole in the right place!!! Also to mount hte seats and bring back the speaker wires they chopped up the cross member in two places.

Steering wheel is held on by nothing except hope since the nut that holds it on isn't screwed onto the column since there is no thread!

Next hte electronics packed up, with a whole bunch of problems all around the car. Hence why I'm rewiring the entire car right now (using only 2 colours of wire note!! Hate colour coded systems and instead use labellled wires! Plus this way noone can ever figure out my system except me ;p)

My headlamps are from the GT (halogens) since Stacy's had the sealed beams originally..

So far I've replaed the battery which right now is giving out 11.7 volts :\\\
I've replaced both rear cylinders (omitted the paper gasket and the circlips but haven't driven around much, just to the garage etc. Fitting the circlips soon)
Changed the carb for a HIF38 on a MG inlet (found it in a scrappy cleaned it out and it seems to work fine except kinda jerky)

So as you can imagine I'm inquite a pickle!!

Things need sorting

Paintjob (paint has gone really crappy to be honest), but this isn't my priority!
Engine mountings
Subframe mountings
Engine steady
Electrical System
Suspension bits including cones or springs, knuckle joints hilos and adjustable tie-rods at the very least
New exhaust system with manifold, downpipe and backbox
New bonnet + boot (boot is dented + rusty, bonnet fell off the car once getting dented and scratched)
Arches need to be finished cutting and GP 2 arches installed
Interior needs reupholstering (well, carpets and dash which I'm making from scrach)
Steering column replacement
Rear circlip installation
Headlamp bowl replacement
Interior Rear view mirror needs instlaling
Hammeriting floors black (inside and out). They have been semi-straightened out using a huge hammer.

Right now car is parked at my fellow mechanics. Dunno where I'd be without his garage to be honest. It's semi disassembled as I'm rewiring it. Hopefully someone will be able to get me some rubbers so that I can refit them while I have access to all of his equipment!

So in the last year I've spent 400ish pounds on this thing just minor bits and pieces and it's even worse than it looked when I bought it. 18th birthday coming up in 2 months and there's no way the car will be what I wished it would be.

Might end up selling it next month... Even if for 200-300 pounds. Should be enough for a 87 Colt Turbo.. or Alfa 55.

Also recently my alternator packed up (mounting snapped) so I replaced it with one from the GT again... Haven't started her since. Also replaced spark plugs with some fancy triple electrode jobbies from the garage. Along with some Trust Racing fuel pipe and vacuum hose.

I still get an occasionaly drip from the float chamber for some reason :\ Needle valve is closing, might just be overflowing I guess...

Anothing thing to mention would be my MG Metro that I bought from the mechanic. Took the engine out and while it was standing outside his garage for a while, it was vandalized by someone who uncovered it to the elements and tried to remove the flywheel using only a hammer. Very little of that engine was left.

I salvaged the camshaft, oil pump, inlet, head and the 5 pepper pot alloys from that car, along with some bulbs and fuses, but that's about it. Not really worth the 100 pounds I paid for it. What's worse is that that engine ran very well :\

Am I bitter? Heh.. I'll let you decide!

New alternator isntalled:

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what the f$*( this is! It's mounted on the driverside inner wing near the bulkhead from inside the bonnet with some yellow and green wires going to it (thick ones) and it doesn't look factory to me at all!!!

It's covered by a blue box thingie but here is what it looksl ike when uncovered!

P.S. Didn't mention that My throttle cable needed replacing several times, needed a new choke cable, and my brake servo hose connection (at the brake servo) won't stay in so no servo for me!!
