Is it a legal requirement to have the closing panels fitted under the rear valance?

Will it fail an MOT if they are removed?

I believe so, some stupid thing about if you run over a ped or something similar. Might hurt them on the big nasty sub frame.

I think they are there more to provide extra stiffening to the shell and provide more support to the subframe mounting. If they are corroded then it will fail, but if there is no sign of them at all....? May depend on the tester at the time.

Personally, I'd want them there for the support they give to the subframe.

The are strengthing panels for the rear subframe mount, creating a box section...

You can do away with them if you have a beam subframe with no rear mounts.
