Any crash violent enough to bend/snap/move the seat and seat subframes, throw you out of your seat and throw you around the inside of the car would be pretty leathal in a mini anyway. And as for hitting your head on the cage; i think if your in a crash that bad then the cage could just have easily been the roof pillars.
Thanks for the safety warning anyway dan, I would be getting some padding to go around the top bar.
Its not like this cage was ever made for race cars i'd expect a diagonal really. I only bought it because i spotted it in paulrockcliffes car when i was picking up some stuff i bought from him. He was\selling it cheap enough at £30 so i thought 'that'll look great with my classic racey interior' So i bought it purely for astetic purposes.
Now as for it not being fitted properly. I'm using much bigger bolts and washers than the ones that came with it. They're easily double the width of the standard bolts. So i think if i use those and find some sort of solid spacer to use on the rear bin legs; i reckon as long as the fit is good and its in tight it'll be fine.
I spent about an hour forcing the cage in and i'v scraped half the paint off the cage, marked my new brand door cards, scratched the freshly painted floors and made loads of ugly scrapes all over the bins and pillars. So the last thing i want to do is take the thing out again.

well to be honest i have always said there is more danger of hitting the b-pillar than anything else, be it a car with or without a cage.

Ok, well if you think scraping some more paint and taking 1-2 hours out of your day to take some very potentially hazardous out of your mini is too much then thats up to you.
Rollcages are NOT aesthetic, they are racing devices and should only be used as such.

when fitting a cage, why not cover the ends with some bubble wrap first, and use a trailer strop to pull the two ends together, so its actually small enough to not rip the inside of your car to bits.
