You're going to have to put a pic up of the parts.... was the set removed from a gearbox or is it just a 'collection' of gears ?

Just occurred to me that 1st, the gear with the most torque, is closest to the final drive - clever these engineer types aren't they? :thumbsup:

I'm going to have a recount at lunch, I've obviously wrote them down in the wrong order!

Right, laygear is 15, 19, 23, 25. Gears as follows:

1st - 31
2nd - 25
3rd - 22
4th (1st motion) - 19
Definitely 31 teeth on 1st gear. Will work out ratios when I get back to work, but I've just worked out 1st as being 2.7192.

Ok, calculated the ratios as follows:

1st - 2.719
2nd - 1.73
3rd - 1.25
4th - 1

It seems I do have the ST Abingdon set, but with a standard 1st gear. next job is to bolt it all together and see if it actually works, if not one ST 1st gear to be bought!

Help!!!

I have worked out the ratios of the dog box,

1st gear =0.2734
2nd gear=0.4355
3rd gear=0.5985
4th gear =1

Layshaft - 15, 19, 21 & 23
Gearteeth - 31,27,24 & 23

Pinion gear = 13

13/23 = 0.5652 x
15/31 = 0.4838
______________
0.2734

13/21 =0.6190 x
19/27 =0.7037
______________
0.4355

13/19 =0.684 x
21/24 =0.875
______________
0.5985

Where do i go from here???
How do I figure out what gearkit i have??

Hope someone can help!

Andy

The calculation I use is the one from Guessworks FAQ:

1st motion teeth Leygear teeth for gear
ratio  =   -------------------  *  --------------------------
				Laygear teeth				Gear teeth
Since your 1st motion gear and corresponding laygear have the same number of teeth the first half of the calculation is always going to be 1.

So 1st gear is 1 x 15/31 = 0.48387. You then divide 1 by this number (explained in the FAQ) to give you a ratio of 2.06667.

Using the same calculation I got the following ratios:

1st = 2.06667.
2nd = 1.42105
3rd = 1.142857
4th = 1
