Ok, Ive got a Mini sprite and its got 3 different keys

Key for the doors and boot
Key for the fuel cap
Key for the igniton.

Just out of interest, Once upon a time, would they all of had the same key, and where the handles and fuel cap have been upgraded to chrome, they have required different keys???

My Mini is completely original at least I think it is  and it has the three different keys as well. Don't think they can be one key all together. Just look at the shape of the keys. The door & bonnet locks have a key with one flat side, the fuel cap has no flat sides and the ignition key is about twice as long as the others. So I don't think they can ever be one key. Unless you modify your locks (ruin) like the previous owner of my friends Mini he can do everything with his ignition key. But than again you can also do it with a screwdriver, well everything but the iginition.

3 keys is correct, but as already been said by minimoi, mini locks tend to... umm... not work very well at times, and old crappy locks can be opened using almost anything (I can open my 1976 GT using a penny or keys from my other mini...)

While you have a locking fuel cap, and a column ignition, your will have at least 3 keys.

As you go back in time the number of keys decrease, one key will be removed, when a non-locking fuel cap is used, and I think ( Please correct if wrong ) the MK1 with the floor starter shared the same key for the ignition, as for the doors.

I the door and boot lock tumblers are the same MK3 on, whatever the colour.

Three keys, as everyone says. I lost all of them on my Mayfair 15 miles from home (and I had no spares, idiot), but found I could open the boot with my garage key, and a passing LandRover driver opened the mini's driver's door with his petrol cap key. I was very proud when I managed to bypass the ignition switch and start the car, but just drove round ... and round ... and round because the car had been parked with the front wheels on full lock and of course I couldn't unlock the steering. So I had to go and get a hardened drill bit to drill out the locking mechanism, and at home I found some keys in a box of households oddments which worked the driver's door lock AND the petrol filler cap. One used ignition/steering lock -- with key -- from my friendly local mini shop and I was back in business. Conclusions: don't lose keys in first place; have spare keys; minis of a certain age aren't all that secure; some mini owners are more stupid than others.
