I have an 1981 City and was wondering how difficult it would be to convert to a 3 Clock instruments from a newer model. As I prefer the look of them as well as them including a tachometer. Just wondering if there are any problems or different parts required to switch.

I did a search but found nothing.

Any tips or Help?

Thanks

Ali

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. WOO!

Ahem. My 82 had twin/triple clocks so if your lucky then you may have been converted (not sure on year changes but won't hurt to look) from triple to single clocks.

Be a big plug somewhere round the dash area.

Preety sure that it has always had a single speedo. Preety certain there is no big plug any where in my dashboard region.

Anymore ideas

I had a look on the Moss website and i can't see that they do a kit for the inverse.

Any more ideas?

Nobody does the reverse conversion kit because nobody provides the large 12-way connector that plugs into the back of the printed circuit board on them. I could fashion the wiring required, I dare say, but I can't get that plug... see wanted section for more info!

Mind you, those 2 or 3 way to centre binnacle conversion kits? I am now producing them, beautifully hand-crafted and more cost effective than other suppliers!

I'd leave the central speedometer as it is, because it's a great feature and those Smiths Instruments are a classic thing to enjoy. Well their far better than the nasty Japanease Nippon Seiki rubbish that all Minis got inflicted with from 1985. I mean just what the hell was Rover playing at?

Anyway why don't you get the classic Mini Cooper/Mini 1000 type oval surround pod which will incorporate the Smiths Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge instead? You could also add a rev counter on to that?

Then their obviously pre-1985 triple clocks then and much better for it too.

Oh yeah, sorry back to the topic.

To convert from single clock to triple clock is the simple way of....

change the loom.

Thats what I did/am doing. Need a new speedo cable and a plate for the bulkhead. If your using the stock air filter then you will need an original style plate which is molded to the filter shape. If not then you can just use a plate with a hole in it.
