Hello!.

Atm.. Im running Ubuntu (feisty fawn) on my computer, I want to run MSN on here.. At the moment I'm using aMSN but it really really sucks. And using Wine im sure I can run real MSN but the older versions try to get you to update(tried it before on a different computer) But how would i get them running? The newest version as possible..

Understand?

Thanks!. :withstupid:

I would recommend pidgen (was called gaim) as a decent alternative.

Have you got Wine installed and running ok? What errors are you getting? It 'should' allow the latest MSN.

This link might help http://sidenet.ddo.j...ips/config.html

Gaim's not too bad... Just a bit too simple.. (not enough features)

And.. I downloaded it (proper msn).. But it won't install.. I'll try again

Well according to the WINE forum you can't run the latest MSN. Although it does say MSN 7.0 works.

Why do you NEED msn on linux the very reason to switch to linux is to get away from Microsoft :withstupid:

Can't really help out on this topic - I don't use MSN very often, and defo not on Linux.

Got to ask though, have you looked at the other Linux alternatives, there are tons out there. Some good, some bad.

You could do what I plan to do for my next computer - Linux as the installed OS, with windblows running in VM - best of both worlds. The VM install should be more or less the same as running windows as intended, but you only call it up when you *NEED* a windows specific program, and even if (read when) windows crashes, the computer will carry on as normal, and you will only need to restart the VM windows (and you can modify windows to boot damn quickly too).
If I can work the bugs out, I plan to use this exact setup for running windows based games from within Linux, rather than dual boot.

Aha. After using aMSN for a while.. (it annoys me so much though!!.. Its all the 'joins conversation' rubbish!!)

I tried Mercury Messenger again.. After it not working a while ago.. And it magically worked..

So I'm using that :)

Thanks anyway guys!! :ermm:
