I know this topic has been done LOADS of times before on this board but I just have a quick question about it. After spending some time thinking about it Im going to get some deep dish 7x13's to go on my mini with the group 5 rally arches, after looking at various pictures this is the look I really like and have decided to go for.

Im not expecting them to go straight on and am prepared for a bit of work to get them to fit and run smoothley, but speaking to various people they have ranged from saying there is no work needed to there is a hell of a lot or work needed. Which one is it closer to?! The mate who said there is no work needed has a later style Cooper, now I guess he says there is no work needed as his came with larger wheels as standard?

Just after a bit of advice (I did pre-warn you about this! ) and what I can expect form fitting them as opposed to 6 x 12's.

Thanks Guys

Yea, it can depend on the car, as the later Sportspack cars has 13s as standard I believe, this exact question was asked a day or 2 ago so it should be around somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Even with 6x12's there is a likely hood that you are going to have to trip a bit from the front of the wheel arch at the front... And if the car is lowered, then there is even more.

There are templates around FoC on the internet which show where a standard wing needs to be cut for Sportpack arches, which are normally fitted with 13's so should provide a good guide to start with. The rest is trial and error, as all minis are slightly different

You will also need a reduced lock steering rack (or limit the lock on your own rack somehow), and you will find increased front wheel bearing wear especially as you are using deep dish 7" wheels. And you will need to spacer the rear wheels by 6mm, (more is not a good idea).

The size of these wheels also probably means that you will have to trim more than normal amounts from the front arches.

Cheers for the advice, I have been reading up on the work involved and the effects having this size can cause, and I am still undecided to be honest. As this is my first Mini Im not too sure about working on it and getting all done properly

I havent actually got it yet so I could still change my mind and maybe go for 6x12's instead with not so wide arches? Its a shame as I really do like the mean look you get with 7x13's but I will have to have a rethink.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction to have a look at the templates for cutting the arches? Might be a god idea to have a look and get a better idea before I order the wheels! lol

Cheers

i foudn my self in this exact position a year ago when getting my first set of new alloys for the mini....
i actually ordered a set of 7x13's, but was eventually SO put off by the posts on the net saying how tehy killed handling, that i canceled my order and got a set of deep dish 6x12's afterall.
i know the huge offset on teh deepdish 6x12's still numbs the handling a touch, but its nowhere near as bad as teh minis ive driven on 7x13's. so im happy
also, because the offset of so large, u dont need any spacers on the rear wheels, and tehy fill sportspack arches perfectly!

Thanks everyone

I know there werent loads of replies here but you have really helped me to make my mind up.

Prawn: Im doing the same as you and going for the deep dish 6x12's instead. For my first mini I want something that will look smart but without having to do too much technical work to it at the same time. Do they still fill the arches out just as well? I was going to get the group 5 arches but now I dont know if they will still look as good and am wondering about the group 2's instead. I will get the wheels and then measure the distance needed to cover them properly.

Who knows, when I have had it a while and am more up on all the work needed, then I can trade them in for the 7x13's. :cheese:

Thanks again, its just good to know that there is a place I can come to sound you out for ideas and to also get help when needed.

Deep dish 6x12's will just stick out from underneath Grp2's (1.3/4") , Grp5's I believe are 2.1/2 - 3 inches, depending on fit and manufacturer, so the wrong ones could make it look more like a flying carpet :(

IMO, you want to be looking for an arch about 2 - 2.1/4 inches., The Wood&Picket arches look very nice Posted Image

Oh dearey me! :saywhat:

I had it all worked out as to which arches I wanted and now you say there are more to chooose from?! lol

I dont like the "bubbleyness" of the Sportspack arches and liked the group 5/2 arches as they were more straight out and not so curved. Time to get all the magazines out again and start from scratch! :( lol

A friend of mine is in the process of fitting 7x13's to his Clubman. He is using the 'Euro' style arch from MWS. It's a tight squeeze but it looks hard as nails. Can't wait to see it finished.

Hi Roberts, nice to see another Stokie on here, I thought I was the only one.
