Alternator Squeal

my alternator has decided to when you turn the lights on. do i need a new alternator? it is a spi and i understand they had 75amp alternators and am wondering if mine is a 45 amp?

I think they generally squeal when under too much strain or if the belt is fitted incorrectly so i'd say check that first, and if all looks fine, get a beefier alternator, or use less electrics at once

fit a new fan belt they dont cost much

looks like ill have to buy a new alternator then, but i think ill rebuild the engine first

yeah but im gonna rebuild my engine anyway, while its off the road, just need to build up the courage to get it out.

Seems a bit drastic when all it likely is, is the fan belt needing to be replaced. IMO etc etc

oh no! im not rebuilding the engine because of the squeal im rebuilding it because of other things.

Go buy a piggin belt.
It's either screwed, loose or about to snap.

my 'fan belt squeal' turned out to be water pump bearings gone the way of the dinosaur or rather going, then it was 'clutch burning smell' that turned out to be water pump seals melting.. [i think]
