my car has so many layers of paint its unbelievable .
i started on my door and all the paint came off with no problems at all then i moved to the a panel(this is where the probs began).

it took the black enamel off fine and some of the red topcoat (thats under the black) so i put more on and fine it took that off the red top coat and the red primer under that.

now the problem.
no matter how many times i put nitromore's on it wont touch the red that is under the red primer and the stuff that is under that.i think it has got some sort of filler primer on it and that wont move a inch.

its the same on the passenger rear to.

what can i use to get filler primer off.
cheers

If it's stuck on that well why bother?

Just flat it :)

i did think about that but i really want to see whats under all the paint.
the last thing i want is rust coming through in 6 months.

if there is no magic chemical i think i will need to flatt it.

you could try a few solvents for the usual suspects..

acetone, xylene... they're both pretty volatile so might not do much before they evaporate.

Make sure you have plenty of fresh air :)

im sure i saw a couple orange butterfly's wearing Toto's when i was using nitromore . :P

i think ill just flat it.when the topcoat is off its not to bad once thats off but the top coat is enamel (i think).its not sand able at all and it rips of not sands off so it leaves rough edges.

Try a hot air gun, if you get it hot enough it bubbles and will peel off. Wear a good mask if you do this, the fumes aren't very friendly.

If you had electric you would of had two options 1st being a wire wheel on a drill the 2nd is an electric sander ive used both of these methods on the restoration of my mk1 golf and thay both worked a treat

Electric DA sander with 40 or 80 grit.

Go steady if you use a heat gun cause eventually the panel will warp if you get it too hot!

Hey mate

I have just completed a full bare metal strip of my 71 Morris. I had about 4 layers of paint on the body and had the same problems as you did. In the end i got the first few layers off with the stripper then moved to the wire wheel on a grinder which bought it back to bare metal nicely.

cheers

im moving house tomorrow and its got a big drive.i can finally get electric to my car.whhhoooo.

ive got a orbital sander so that should get it off easy.

im never using paint stripper again. it takes to long and to messy.

anyone thinking about using stripper should think again, sanding is the future >_<
