How's my gearbox? :ermm:

Currently polishing the gearbox casing with autosol and a toothbrush along with individually naming each nut and bolt. :D

Why can I not find a 'dolly' anywhere? :teehee:

lol. yeah each of the bolts is getting a name from this years X-factor. So they are all called words which will get caught by the swear filter!!

not really got a lot further i'm afraid... Engine has been put in, but i had someone at milton keynes keep me busy most of the afternoon, and it was too cold after that! :teehee: Will get started tomorrow before I have to take the screen out of the mayfair :s

have got pipe and slippers organised though! :D (well, a fag that fell out the packet and into some grease and a pair of old trainers!)

I have one similar to Double Ended Dolly - ST-HT-DDE which seems to do for most. and get a little pein hammer like http://nextday.diy.c...productId=84268 for those little details. (although kris has probably got one somewhere)

Not lazy! :) Just didn't get there til late, then I was on the phone for a while ... :) ... then didn't manage to get a huge amount done ... er ... because ... er ...

:D

Besides - I'm looking at him at the moment, thinking 'Where the hell do I start', lol. I figured if I started to strip all the rubbish paint off and tidy up some edges, it'll be clearer to see what I've got to work with.

Tomorrow, I think I'll work on the inner wing again - repair that little section at the back

Nice one on the case!!

How'd the screen go?

Well, photos from today:

I started cleaning off the old paint from the inner wing:

Posted Image

Also, wanted to check how my first repair was doing and how well it blended with the original - I'm pretty happy with this bit - The rest I'll chop back out again.

Posted Image

I tidied up the other side, which still had some of the original wing attached:

Posted Image

He looks pretty solid, apart from one hole in the scuttle:

Posted Image

I'm a bit dubious though - If that bit's rotten, then the rest surely isn't far behind. I'll wait 'til I take the closing panels off to make a decision what to do here.

Wish the same could be said for the driver's side -

And, just to make me feel better - I also clamped together the front end panels - Just to see what the rough fit was like:

Posted Image

It doesn't look too bad on both sides:

Posted Image

Posted Image

There's a few high-points and bits slightly out-of-shape which is holding them off - So it's not actually too bad for a first fitting.

(Oh, and I don't know how many of you are following my thread for my house rebuild, too - but when I said everything is covered in brick-dust ... I meant everything ... look at the colour of my driveway, lol)

yeah. i took the balls out of the bearings so i didn't have to faff about separating things and have the synchros fly apart, and locked up the 4 gears on the mainshaft so the layshaft is there just for looks :)

on the plus side, we can return half the stuff from john :D
