The G Wagen is bomb proof compared to reliability issues of the Landy (and the limited on road performance).

The G Wagen is also amazing off road. Merc's real off roader compared to the nancy boy ML class. The AMG G Wagen is a beast too...

The new models (G WAGON) had even greater creature comforts than the original G500 with COMMAND, the Mercedes satellite navigation system as standard and various other sensible modifications to make life at the wheel of a G even more comfortable and luxurious. The model range increased to give the G500, the G400 which is a V8 Twin Turbo Diesel and the G270CDi., with the same common rail Diesel engine as fitted to the M Class. Tragically, the two Diesel models have never been built in RHD. The G55 AMG now became the G55 Kompressor, being fitted with a SUPERCHARGER, this becomes the fastest G-Wagen so far and by that I mean 0-100Kmh., in 5.6 seconds.

If I could afford a G-Wagon I'm sure I could find the change for a 'fender..

But, if I couldn't afford two, definitely the Merc - Such a beast!

I think even if I had the choice, and all the money in the world, I'd still have the Defender!

I know in pretty much every sense the G-Wagen (and its spelt Wagen not Wagon, as in Volkswagen) is a better motor, for me the Defender has more 'soul' and thats pretty important to me, I don't like soul-less cars!

I'm also a bit biased because my first car back in the day was a ex-MOD 91 Defender 90, full winterised and sporting a 70bhp 2.5 naturally ashmatic diesel engine. It was slow, it leaked water through the 'sunroof' every time it rained, and hadn't heard of handling, the handbrake would stick on (crappy drum on the back of the gearbox!), but it never let me down and I loved it!

Obviously the new ones are a bit more refined, I think they might even have electric windows now? :o

So yeah, Defender for me :o
