Hey there

I had a similar problem when i used to race bmx, well kinda. I used to ride a 4130 cromo bmx, but this was back in the day before V type brakes were about, then they came out and i was amazed by how they worked. But didnt want to get a new frame because mine was awesome, so i looked into getting v brake lugs welded on. Like everybody has previously mentioned it will need to be tig welded, the only and biggest problem i faced was that the heat generated from welding the lugs on would have weakened the rest of the welds in that surrounding area. This was advised by all the engineering firms i contacted as well as specialist cycle builders. This is because the frames are heat treated following being welded together in the factories, to ensure all is the same. Id maybe just leave the mount as it is and get one of the bolt on type mounts.

Hope this helps

the only thing with welding it is that it will have to be dead inline with the outher mounting as its DMR bike i would forget about trying to repair it because i used to work for a bike shop in middlesbrough and have done all my tests, i would send it back and get warrenty on the frame as they carry a 3 year warrenty with the frames i would phone dmr up because it would be way quicker that going through and 3 party shop

And they're going to honour the warranty? Even if he doesn't tell them he left one of the caliper mounting bolts out its going to be obvious that the bike has been 'used for a purpose other than for which it is intended'.

At Giant I had loads of frames sent through for 'warranty' failures, where the dealer had told the customer it would be covered under warranty, when the damage was blatantly caused by misuse and abuse.

Also, that frame looks older than 3 years old!
