Iv got parts of a stage 1 kit including a piperx bolt on filter for my 1275.
Iv herd about upgrading the needle for the carb.
Could anyone shed me some light on if i need to upgrade this when installing the filter to make the most out of the rest of my stage 1 bits.

You don't just need one to get the best out of your kit, you need one to prevent the engine melting down internally as the existing one will be far too lean for a properly setup stage 1. Stage 1 kits are normally properly developed collections of matched parts, not just a random selection. A trip to the rollers is even more important than with a normal stage 1 since you don't actually have a stage 1 kit, you are just doing your own tuning. Any needle suggested here will only be a guess.

The general needle depends on engine size,
a stage one is AAU as standard, and AAC as stage 1, (or vice versa).
a 1275 is different, I can't remember as I'm running an MG Metro setup with modified carb and needle...
Anyway as Dan says, getting it set up properly will get the most from your new parts.
