My college tutor has a bike plate recessed into his boot about 2" at the top and the flush at the bottom, flate into the curve of the boot. I cant find any pics but i know its legal so might help u a little.

Cheers Adam

The law used to state that the plate should be clearly seen by a person standing anywhere in a 30ft square when a corner of that square was on the plate. :proud:

Early Metro plates were under the bumper and pretty well tucked away.

So would recessing the plate in about the width of the rear valance be too much?

i think you need to try it and see how visable it is

either make it in cardboard to just tack it in steel

Will check with our traffic officers when back at work tommorrow, owever my MOt bloke passed mine with a cracked numb plate because he could read it at a set distance!

there is the law then there is common sense, I have never known anyone given a ticket for having an empty washer bottle! there is always discretion on the part of the cop.

I pulled a mini the other week simply because I could not see his advert in the back as it was for sale, had a good bit crack with the lad and his partner at like 0330 am!

Point being if a car look =s good you may just get pulled for a chat under the pretence of something else, cops are human after all (well some are anyway) if you can see it at something like 20 meters then dont worry about it as it can be read by al the cmeras and ageing coppers eyes!!!

Cheers

Thanks Bigman.

I was ruling it on more with common sense than styling...
I just wanted to confirm if there was any set laws etc...

I'd just recess it until the bottom of the plate was flush with the bottom section of the hole in the valance, if you see what I mean.

Thats what I'd like to do!
But I was just thinking it might be too deep...

you could always angle the plate up a little to limit how much its recessed
