Ive tried searching but I cant find anything in depth about mounting tweeters behind the fresh air vents. The threads i found had most of the pictures removed.
So how is it done, whats the easiest way and is it possible to do it without hindering the useability of the vents?

to be honest, mounting the tweets inside your vents, whilst keeping the main front section of the vent, will render the tweets, well, kinda useless really. Also, a tweet will be about 2/3 the size of the vent itself, so will mostly obstruct it as well

Don't know much about mounting tweeters in air vents... but for speakers make sure they're the right mounting diameter! I ordered some 10cm speakers (which got freely upgraded to a more expensive pair :)) and found that to fit them they had to go behind the hole not in front...

most tweeters will render the airvents useless, because of their size is almost the diameter of the airvent tube. most people mount the tweeters on the top dash rail, on in each corner. mine are held in using foam tape as i didnt want to drill holes.
by the way, 10cm speakers will fit in place of the airvent, but to fit them in from the front of the dash means that the vent hole will need trimming slightly.

Never occurred to me you might try to keep the air vents with speakers installed. This is mine atm (Bit sad, but awaiting fettling)

You might like to consider an alternative like this. Don't ask for details, it's on a pick-up belonging to a German I snapped at IMM in Denmark

God no, thats far from factory looking. I really wanted the speakers outta sight for the most part. If you stick them to the dash rail with tape, where do you hide the wires? Just tuck them between the rail and the top of the dash I guess?

You might get away with cutting the tube on the fresh air vent down to flush with the back of the dash board, that way you can still have them at the front and secured at the back. Then mount speakers behind these, thus making it look like you've still got air vents. Does that make any sense?

I love the fresh air vents, and being a late model rover, they work off the heater aswell, so yes I do find them useful for keeping warm. Plus theyre great on the motorway if it gets a bit to warm!
I had an idea for mounting the tweeters inside the vent, with just a thin bracket going through the middle of the pipe, secured top and bottom somehow outside the pipe, and then mounting the tweeter to the middle of that. That way the air could still move around the speaker, and if I get the position right, sound just as good. Any of that making sense to anyone? lol
