As described my mate wrote off his Type R last night, and I was wondering if it was worth buying back the car as salvage and selling it for bit.

The question is would you want the bits. i.e. the engine gearbox and wiring loom. would the front seats fit a mini?

all valid questions but is it worth the hastle. What do you think?

The CTR has a K20 engine (unless its import), which are larger than the B16/18/20 engines which are more commonly used in Mini conversions. Currently the MinTec subframe from America is the only off the shelf subframe that fits the K20 engine, and in a lengthened front. Because of this the K20 isn't so sought after in the Mini community.

Talk to Z Cars though, they might know someone who'll buy it to go in one of their kits.

thanks. was just wondering.

Both airbags went off and he has been told he is lucky to be walking, so not entirly sure of all dammage to car yet, but it would be un understatement to say it looked a little bent out of shape in the photo's I saw.

What annoyed him is the silly security device that locked him in when the battery came off. there was a bit off smoke in the car and he was cacking himself.

The seats are too wide :shy:
I tried to see if the one in the Civic i've had chance to nick bits off, would fit, but they don't - unless you move the handbrake

Other than, engines are good, as people have already stated, they are larger then the B-Series Honda engines.

The seats arnt too wide i have a set fitted in my mini! without moving the handbrake... they're very tight though!

You could get a couple of thousand for the engine, gearbox etc. Few hundred for the interior...

Not realy sure what is happening at the moment, so will keep you posted.

My mate is having nightmares about the crash and I think it is hitting home now.

Luckily no one was seriously hurt, but there are 2 quite expensive cars in lots of pieces and we are not sure if there will be an insurance pay out as the other driver ran away, she wasnt over the limit so there must be another reason(I suspect no insurance). so not sure if we will be able to get the car back as salvage.

Tell your mate to enquire to his insurers about it. If its CAT B i do believe you can strip bits ouf of it before it gets scrapped. This way the scrappers dont have field day with the undamaged parts.

Hope he is ok :D
