i have mk1 rear lights, but a mk3 wiring loom.

i am fitting new spade connections to mate the two because the old bullets are ratty and dont fit the plastic plug.

quick question.

on the lights there are 3 wires green/purple geen/red and plain red.

im not sure which the plain red wire should connect to.

Green/Purple is brake light, Green/Red will be an indicator so they must have spliced in the red for the rear light, although it shouldn't be just red... could it be Red/Green?

You not looked at a wiring diagram?

My 63 Hornet has an 82 loom in now. Just look in the haynes as BMC being BMC kept all the wirire colors the same. So on a 63 right to late mini the wire colors are the same.

That and the diagram has all the colors written on it.

Anywho,

GREEN PURPLE wire is for the rear lights when the pedal is pressed.

Rear lights (Like sidelights) is RED GREEN.

Lights are fed from the loom by a red/green

Plain red was the standard colour for the sidelight circuit on a Mk1, there is nothing wrong with that at all. Connect the red in the cluster to the red/green of your cars sidelights circuit. Specifications DO change, quite often.
