ive been lookning into getting my self a fancy crome looking old stero unit, as in realy old, something that looks fancy but when you look into the car you will just see an old classic stero in the dash, but, i was thinking of putting a upto date cd/MP3 player somewhere in the car,

2 questions

1) can i run both units, and flip a stwitch for feeds from stero to stero,
2) how would it work with speakers??

would i have to just 2 wires to each termanl for each staero?
or can i run that via a stwitch too?

so to work the classic stero player i filp 3 stwitchs, one for feed other 2 for speakers?

is this possible,
ideas and feed back on my idea.

cheers
mark

hmm yes its totally possible, its gonna need a bit of thought behind it

i would wire up the two stereos but put the switch in the switched live feeds on both units, so one unit is on and one is off and vice versa, as for speakers i would probably run one set (2) on one unit and 2 on the other

this is about as simple as i can make it, it could be made much more complicated with switches to run all 4 speakers etc

sounds like an interesting idea

thats mint mark! has a lot of class. The power wires would be simple, just split the feeds to both. You can also wire 2 sets of wires up to the speakersor split one unit into the other but you will need soem diode to protect the unit thats not on

sorry didnt see your questions up there..

couple of resons,

i like to be differant and do things no on else has done before,

less chance of being broken into, whne yu have an old raido on show.

alsoit would be perity points less just have have it and not haveit working,

it would only be used for shows, a touch of class....
retro

i will have subs amps and the rest of my ice hiden away in the mini, but....

be also good say takeing the mother out for a drive somethere, just pop on the old MW or LW radio....

lol

main reason it to put people off brakeing in,

for the shows and events

and to set th class of my mini.

Or you could just slam an orchestra on the back seat!!

Nothing like the sound of live music!

Why don't you just fit one like all the classic car (MG, Triumph, Jaguar etc) nutters fit? They look old but are up to date electronically. There are companies that take the old stereo bodies and replace the guts so that they can work with FM and auxiliary inputs and play MP3 and stuff like that. They've been doing it for the classic show scene for ages.

Buy a McIntosh head unit :P more class than a snob champagne fest mansion party, and its one of the (if not the) best quality head units on the market right now.

Oh and its around 1000 pounds... slight detail that...

But seriously if that thing is just for retro I'd hook it up to a single dash or console mounted (totally retro) speaker, and the rest of the sytem hook it up to the proper head unit...

Zero point in hooking up that old radio to proper speakers or an amp (not that it would have the outputs to go to an amp anyway)
