(there is no difference in the rear quarter light construction, I've put opening windows in a city before)

All I was referring to above was the need to pay someone on the production line to mark and drill the holes, fit the assembly, drill more holes, fit the catch and adjust the window coupled with paying someone to build the frame and wrap it around the glass (which is a pig of a job if you've ever tried it, there must have been a special press involved at the factory) represents quite an investment compared to pushing a fixed glass and seal into place. There is no difference in the shell as Anorak says. Sorry if that was misleading.

fair comment Dan, sorry for miss interpreting that :D

a list of the special editions....

Mini Limited Edition 1000 1976
Mini 1100 Special 1979
Mini Sprite 1983
Mini 25 1984
Mini Ritz 1985
Mini Chelsea 1986
Mini Piccadilly 1986
Mini Park Lane 1987
Mini Advantage 1987
Mini Red Hot 1988
Mini Jet Black 1988
Mini Designer 1988
Mini Racing 1989
Mini Flame 1989
Mini Rose 1989
Mini Sky 1989
Mini 30 1989

Mini British Open Classic 1992
Mini Italian Job 1992
Mini Rio 1993
Mini Tahiti 1993
Mini 35 1994
Mini Cooper Monte Carlo 1994
Cooper Grand Prix 1994-1996
Sidewalk 1995
Cooper ‘S’ 1995
Equinox 1996
Cooper 35 1996

Cooper ‘S’ Touring 1999
Cooper ‘S’ Sport 5 1999
Cooper ‘S’ Works 1999
Mini 40 1999
John Cooper LE 1999

there were many other limited/special editions in other countries and some of the UK ones were known by other names in other countries with slightly different specs and colours. i dont have time to go into these now and if i said i knew off all of them, i would be lying.

and before anyone says Knightsbridge, this was actually a production model from the "run-out range" that was only available to the export market, its not a special edition, and neither is the cooper sport 500, these were simply the last production models made.

to write a full topic on them would take ages but some of them can be seen here

Anorak, nice one fair play. It may well be a tiny bit anal, but as pointed out it is a *mini forum*, for *guidetoeverythingmini*. It says up there!! ^^^

OK, i'll admit it, i was going to put a post saying along the lines of "it's trivial, let it pass, more to life blah blah blah"

BUT...

I can see where you're coming from Anorak....

One such matter springs to mind with Honda. My car (Accord Type R) came fitted as standard with HID Headlights, Honda listed the part/bulb style as fitment for headlights with the glass dome reflector instead of a normal pattern lens. Trivial thing, but at £108 a pop, the bulbs ain't cheap so alot of owners were slightly peeved when they found they had been supplied the wrong one

Heya,

I just wanted to say that we're fine with a bit of constructive criticism, we know we're not perfect and I suppose I did prompt Anorak to post this topic.

I can't apologise enough for the errors. I'm sure you can appreciate it is difficult to find every little bit of information on each model - especially with Rover's bookeeping - but as I've said before, we will endeavour to do better.

There's nothing wrong with being anal - we are trying to be a guide for readers, so it SHOULD be right - i totally agree.

Can I just say though, and I know its a bit of a poor defence, but while Anorak is god-like on one model, we have to have someone to research each model every month, through books and books, lots of information - which again might be conflicting - and it's not as if we can ask Rover or BMW now is it?? Like i say, no excuse...

Will have a word to the chaps and put this down to a "must try harder"...

(right where's the exit before they lynch me ---> )

a very honest and respectful answer, and yes i take the point the I am only really a "true expert" on this one model and i would have to research all others in just the same way you guys have to.

but to add to that, some mistakes actually conflict with other parts of the article

its been said that you should ask people like us for advise, and there are in-fact specialist groups, that you can contact, for just about all the different minis out there, I'm glad to see that you contacted Foster Charlton for the inno article, and well i for one would be more than happy to help if i could, you know where i am.

i will say again that i only used this article as an example and there are many other well respected books out there that have similar mistakes in them

thanks for the reply craig, taken like a true gentleman, my respect goes out to the mini mag team for that

I was thinking along the lines of how well it was taken, and Im sure the guys will use it to the future improvement of the magazine. Nice one. :techsupport:
