im thinking of putting a smooth boot on my project mini but i dont like the handle at the top to open it and dont want to spoil it with bonnet pins etc so i was thinking about door poppers. so like when you press a button on your remote it unlocks the boot so you can pull it down. now heres the problem i cant find a kit that will do that for a mini anywhere plus because the boot handle is a twist handle to lock rather than on other cars where you shut the boot and its a clip onto a hook that locks the boot i have no idea how it would work. so has anyone got any ideas on what i could do? the reason i want the boot to fold down is because i have 2 12" 1600watt vibe subs that i want to build into my boot and would like to show them off rather than hide them.

also ive seen a mini with a smooth boot but it has a red light across the top about 2 inches down. now im unsure whether its a 3rd brake light or a fog light but i got to thinking and id quite like to put my fog light there insted of under the bumper. has anyone got a clue of how i could go about finding a fog light that would fit there and look good or is it impossible for a fog light to go there??

cheers

i know its not the answer you were looking for, but i'm pretty sure two 12s won't fit in the boot. i measured it out once.. an enclosure for twin 10s will though.

yeah but for two 12" subs you need a hell of alot more volume of air than the boot space anyway or you may as well just have one 12", one 12 with correct volume of air will sound alot better than 2 12"s with to little volume

I don't know of an aftermarket kit that will do exactly what you are looking for, but I think you could piece something together. I would recommend adding a spring loaded plunger, preferably rounded on the top, to the top of the boot lid that will just catch the lip. Then mount a door popper solenoid to the inside of the lid attached to the plunger. When the solenoid is actuated it will pull the plunger allowing boot to open, and if the depth of the plunger is set right it should push back as you close the boot. Here ebay usually has many door popper kits to choose from, and most come with supplies for 2 or 4 doors, so if it works sell off the other components so someone else can try it too.

this just simply isnt true as the audiobahn subs i have got cost a lot of money and paid nearly as much for the proper audiobahn box to match them and it was not custom fit for the mini as i had them in my escort gti before i sold it i didnt think they would fit in the mini either but to my surprise they did and make plenty of bass well too much really for a mini you cant see out the windows properly with it cranked up as they vibrate too much amd it makes your ears ring for hours !!!

what do people think about using a bonnet pull lock thing on my boot to open it? i thought about using a bonnet interior pull thing to open my boot by feeding the cable down along the inside of my car and into the boot and then some how fixing the mechanism so when i pulled the handle the boot was released and it opened. i was thinking about mounting the handle either in the back or down near the bottom on my seat next to the door cill. the only problem i could think of would be running the cable through in such a way that it doesnt catch on anything and that when i pull it the boot actually undoes. if anyone thinks it might work or can see some fatal floors in this idea then please let me know otherwise i think i might try it and see what happens.
