Cars are designed to be driven on roads. If you enter water of any depth, you accept the consequences. The only circumstance where they would pay out is if a police officer instructed you to go through the water and you obtained is warrant number.
It's always best to find an alternative route or park your car somewhere safe and make other arrangements.

Warranty won't touch it... neither will insurance.

Our insurance paid out, they didn't even fight it. No policemen instructing us either lol.

and how long ago was that? there were quite a few changes made after the summer floods.
Little bit cheeky of the insurers, fair do's if you deliberately went swimming, but what if you hit a puddle in the dark; would you be any more culpable than running in to the back of a parked car?
Fortunately, a Mini is likely to have died of soggy electrics long before you manage to get deep enough to swamp the air intake. but if you are ever in that unfortunate situation getting the clutch down sharp would be the thing to do - if you have the presence of mind.

That was June, but always best to give it a try... it may save you £0000's

During the summer floods, we (emergency services) were critisised for not closing roads quickly enough to prevent a few motorists going up to their windscreens or becoming stuck in open manholes. We were further abused for telling people not to enter the water and told " I have to get to Work/My house/ the pub etc" who carried on and got stuck then demanded that we WADE out to them and CARRY them back to dry land and then Recover their vehicles so they could continue their journeys. All this going on while we were trying to rescue elderly, disabled and young families from their flooded homes, evacute 60 non ambulant people from a care home, build defences around water treatment and power instalations and pump water from houses that were only being flooded by the constant bow waves of 4x4 owners through the water.
Don't get me wrong, the bulldog survival spirit of some people was fantastic, but the selfish victimised approach of others was dispicable. We always used to help anyone regardless of circumstances but after several days with no sleep and wet feet, we started refusing to help those who were at fault and in future, i think we won't offer any assistance to those who ignore the basic rule, if you cant see the floor, don't go in!!!!!

I went through a flood today in the mondeo, now I knew this was at my own risk, and if I had got stuck, I wouldn't expect the fire brigade to waste their valueable time pulling me out, they have better things to do, I would have made other arrangements. Purely because it was my own choice to take the risk, and I new the risks before attempting.
Some people take the emergency services for granted, lets face it if you had your mother in a burning house and your father stick in a flooded road in a litle bit of water, where would you rather the emergency services be?
a foot of water, and I know I can get the mondeo through, any more then I got no hope really or very little, my luton well that will go through quite a lot, but I know the air intake on that is very low so wouldn't want to risk it
