Remember reading some time ago in a post that it is possible to buy aluminium door skins, cant remember who sold them and cant find the post now. If anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated and also if anyone knows how much they are? cheers!

Sorry to drag this up again but I'm interested in getting some alu door skins.

Obviously the advantage is that they will not rust but are there any disadvantages?

Thanks
Joe

Yeah there are disadvantages. they do corrode and alloy against steel does not work well there is a charge formed between the different metals which makes them rust/corrode you can get by this by insulating between the two metals or just put up with it it does take a while to really affect.

Ok, thanks  It seems that I'll stick to steel. Alu corrodes, grp cracks.. Looks like I'll have to just get used to it rusting and keep on top of it.

Thanks.

Yep hythe performance do ally skins for mk1/2's for 35 each, and mk3/ onwards for 25 each.

Do you know if theyre different to The Mini Door Company skins?

I was might impressed you could get alluminium skins from them until I saw them at Bingley.

Theyre about as straight as my dogs back leg. And the body line at the top looks like they've been done with a hammer and bolster.

Is that the mini door company ones you are describing? I need new doors and was thinking of getting a pair.

Yeah, I was refering to the mini door company skins.

I sounded a little harsh actually. Im just picky with bodywork.

I couldnt comment on the fit, having never fitted one..

But it would be nice to get ally skins that are straight!
