Hi guys n gals

Interested in treating the beast to some new brakes. Thinking of getting a set of drilled and groved solid discs but standard calipers are looking a bit tired. I see minisport do a vented conversion kit with 4 pots and grooved disc for a shave under £350 with delivery. Anybody had some of these in the past? Are they any good?

They state 'complete front brake conversion kit' in the product description, is there anything else i would require to convert? Another thing that came to my attention is the disc shields fitted as standard, would these need to be removed to accomodate the larger discs?

Sorry for the number of questions. Any help most appreciated,

Chris

some people were having some problems with earlier sets of minsport calipers, but they seem to have sorted it out. i'm using minispares alloy 4pot setup, and its great. i don't really think there is a need for the groved discs if you are just using the car for the road.

i'm unsure if you need the modified (metro) flanges for the minisport setup, but they are needed for the minispares ones.

just remove the disc sheilds, they don't really do much anyway.

just for reference, here what required if you buy from minispares

4 pot calipers
discs (vented or some new non-vented ones)
pads (they use metro 4 pot pads)
caliper spacer kit (if wanting to run vented discs)
era turbo caliper bolts (different size shank)
modified drive flanges (only required for vented discs)
braided hoses (not really a requirement but if your upgrading your brakes it seems silly not to)

don't forget you get a 5% discount from minispares for being a member on here.

You dont need a metro drive flange for the Mini Sport 4 pot's they have been designed to fit onto the standard mini hub and only require 1 brake pipe in unlike the metro 4 pots which require a split when fitting to a Mini....These brakes have been designed for a direct replacement for your standard disc's, so basically its just bolt and go

Guess not to be honest. Just they look and perform better than the standard setup :). Guess i could save the money and spend it on something more sensible. Thanks for the replies guys.

Minis simply aren't heavy enough to need vented brakes.

ERA caliper bolts are only needed for Actual Metro Cast caliper's. Our alloy 4 pots are made to use Mini bolts

if you are interested in the vented disc set, get them before the end of the month as minisport still have their sale on and you can pick them up for £299 inc VAT, this is an over the phone price, plus about £10 for delivery. (also worth a mention is that they are 7.9 and not 8.4inch, this is just the way minisport make them.)

Well, if you need vented discs or not depends on what you are using your mini for.

For track days I would call´l them a must have, as standard Mini brakes will be gone within a couple of laps (or even a single one on tracks like the Nurburgring north loop) and then just spoil your driving pleasure.

For normal road use, vented discs or utterly over the top.

I´ve got the vented 10" KAD setup on one of my cars and I have to "warm up" the brakes before I get proper performance.

The non vented 10" KAD setup on the other car is fine, though.

Does anyone know if you can use the 8.4 solid discs and mini spares 4pot caliper with the metro flanges (that I already have) or do I need to go standard mini flanges?

The metro flange will need the 4 lugs machining off so it will fit most Mini wheels. But otherwise they are the same as long as they are not from a Vented set up.

Thanks niclouse,

I guess the lugs have been machined already or I had original mini flanges if they fit with the setup I had which was metro non vented (metro calipers and the thinner 8.4 metro solid discs).

Just wanted to look at my brake options with the flanges I have.

Cheers
