The best paint to use is 2k, it depends on what kind of coulor your going for as the mixing etc...

Base coat is mixed with basecoat thinners on 1:1 ratio

Laquer is mixed with hardener and 2k thiners on 2:1 & 10% thats 2 laquer 1 hardener & 10% thinners

Solid 2K paint is the same ratio's as Laquer

You would normaly use basecoat and thinners for a metallic colour and a solis 2k for solid colour.

If your painting in your garage i woud say to get extra rapid hardener.

You should also get a carbon mask to wear

Use a HVLP gravity feed gun as this will reduce the ammont of overspray

Also wet the floor of the garage first as this will stop the dust from being blown up when painting.

When applying base coat you should try and start applying the laquer within 1/2 hour of the besecoat being applied, if the basecoat goes off too much before the laquer is applied you will get laquer peel.

and be carefull you neighbours don't complain as you will get a hefty fine.. lol

harden primer and thin your basecoat, then harden your laquer also.

then puke, cough your guts up and collapse on the floor for not using a air fed mask connected to a seperate compressor out of the garage.
these safety measures are there for a reason.

2k paint contains cyanide! Therefore, if you are not using an airfed mask, you are basically breathing in cyanide.

you used to able to get coach paint. which you could roll, brush, or spray and it smells rather nice.
takes about a week to dry but at least you did not poison yourself.
this car was mine it had 6 coats of primer and 8 coats of finish by brush!

Damn I was told I'd get away with using a half mask ( the type with filters in) for spraying! no biggy I'll either get a hose pipe and use it as a snorkle or if i can str£tch to it i might borrow a compressor and buy a mask. Could anyone answer me a quick question I'm spray ing my mini soon (he says! - probably more like months) , i've bought all my paint (apart from laquer). But I've just had a thought some of my panels are brand new from minispares (1 wing, front panel and rear valance) they wre covered in a factoy sprayed type black primer I'm sur eyou know what I mean. Anyway can I just rub these down and use my regular primer or will I have to use a special etch primer :D

Oh and a second thought just crossed my mind I've bought a mercedes metallic paint when I asked about laquer in the shop he said "oh your two packing it?!" in a shocked way then told me to go down and get some lacquer prior to the spray date. Anyway I just wondered...do I actually need laquer then? Could I just do it in the base coat and polish up like he thought I would or willl that look crappy without the laquer?
