Its time to get Sir D under the grinder. The flooding earlier this month saw to his final few miles - washing the bearings clean of grease, and blowing out the exhaust gaskets.

My overview of mission objectives:

- Rebuild the engine and box after fingernail shards of metal attached to sump plug can only mean bad things.

- New exhaust... somthing quieter but still shiney, and a new downpipes and mine is bolloxed.

- Cut away rust underneath front sportspack arches and replace 1 wing, part of the boot floor, battery box, bonnet and possibly both front floor pannels. Repaint accordingly along with both subframes.

- Have doors considered for reskin, and central locking kits.

- Check front windscreen for rust... consider replacing pannel.

- New bushes, bearings, brakes, pipes, cones, shocks and hoses.... possibly a new front wiring loom, and custom work to rewire inner wing sections.

- Re-wire front fogs if possible so they come on separate from the high beams... not at the same time.

- High level brake light.

- Vallet carpet and possible re stuffing of front seats. Repair steering wheel.

- Wing protectors - prevent mud and water from getting up into the wheel arches at the front.

- New parcel shelf covering

- Tweeters under the front dash for improved sound quality.

- Klaxon, again hidden away, also a cigar lighter/ 12v charger point, hidden away.

- Arm rest inbetween front seats.

- 2 cream leather bucket seats for daily driving and store original seats.

- Gold seatbelts and store original blacks.

- New/repair dash.

That pretty much sums up my goals. Budget is tight, but hope to have a running machine road worthy by June for SMD, if not, MITP. The engine will be rebuilt by one of the engine hackers in the block - Mr Dogmatix himself, along with extra help where needed. I will owe the man a great deal when this is done.

Pre-op photos tomorrow with any luck.

The date aim is Southern Mini Days.

Yes well... I know you all have your opinions of Dog.. some good some not so good... but I trust him, the engine he built for his van took him a while, but that was funding and bad luck on auctions more than anything else... the end product was nothing short of spotless. If he screws up he knows full well the implications.

Sorry about the lack of photos so far but the forums been down recently longer than its been up... will get pics on this weekend.

I've got a set of gold MPi seatbelts if you're interested Oli?

And if you're changing your bottom arm bushes, make sure you don't use poly ones. The ones I put on the van looked like this without ever being driven on! :

Just a quick update- cleared the garage to begin work - amazing the amount of C**p you find. The bearings have seized to a point where it took my whole body weight, plus pushing against the garage back wall to push the bugger out of the garage.... not good! :)

Pics tommorow I promise.
