I'm new on here, and I must admit, the last couple of days of reading posts where a few members have been moaning about the state of this forum and new members etc have made me feel a bit sad and not sure if I'm welcome or not. I'm in the same boat as you Angelic_Fruitcake - I love minis, but I have no real knowledge to be able to add anything much to this forum. But, I am enjoying finding my way around, and I am sure that me knowledge will improve as time goes on.

There have been a couple of members that have made me feel very welcome and so I am going to ignore the ones that are whinging at the moment and continue to enjoy what is mainly a very friendly and most informative forum.

I'm glad you have decided to stick around Angelic - we can learn together!

:) I know I made a pretty strong point in t'other thread, but it wasnt anything to do with you, or any other newbie :w00t: My problem was with so many threads getting turned into something else, even when theres a sensible question being asked. We all have to start somewhere - 3 years ago, I'd never really done anything to a car, then I got my first mini, found this place and away I went. Now I'm coming to the end of a two year project where I've learned how to cut, weld, fill and prep a bodyshell, rebuild subframes and suspension totally from scratch, swap and take engines to bits and basically build a car totally from a bare shell. And TMF has been a massive help in doing that.

We have sections for everything so thats the idea. You can post where you feel comfortable and if you need to learn you can read etc. Its that easy, we just want everybody to feel comfortable doing so, so please dont feel pressured into having to post techie stuff because you really dont. I wouldnt even be here if that was the case!

Well, we have about 11,000 members, of whom at least 10,995 aren't throwing their toys out of the pram at any one time. I would like to speak on behalf of the silent majority and urge you to hang around with the rest of us. We have work to do here in many ways, by no means all concerned with technical mini things. We are here to support each other through life's little upsets, whether it's a big bang from the gearbox and a trail of oil on the A36 or the discovery that your partner has eloped with the hamster. I appreciate this free service and to be honest I think that the times I consider leaving are the times I should dig in and try to be supportive.

*We don't have a hamster*

I feel that i can add very little to what has already been said by many others on here, 7 years ago when i got my first mini i knew nothing about them, i learnt from the bottom and worked upwards....I find the best way to learn about something is too strip it too bits...go out and buy a scrap mini and just take everything off it and have a good nosey around things and you will learn more about the car, where things go and what they do...sell some of the bits to make a profit or keep them as spares as you can never have too many :)

As i were saying i knew nothing 7 years ago and im not saying i know everything now but i know a lot more, i started with gas welding, now i can MIG and ive done a little bit of TIG welding, i had never seen the inside of an engine and now i have rebuilt 3 with more to come....My advice is learn by doing, doesnt matter if you go wrong mistakes are there to be learnt from and can always be put right by other people if you cant...im local to yourself and more than happy to help you learn if needs be but please dont feel useless on here, we all need someone to cheer us up when working on our car's doesnt go according to plan

EDIT: The experts love being asked questions, mean they can show off their knowledge! :dozing:

this is very true :P

look, everybody gives out a bit of banter and has a joke now and again. we even scream and shout at each other from time to time (i seem to do my fair share of this) but none of this is intended to make anybody feel unwelcome in anyway what so ever.

i for one would rant and rave at someone one day and then help them out with some info the next, i dont hold a grudge at all.

i also think that the emotions can help a lot as well, for example these two sentences have very different meanings....

shut up mini magic, your talking rubbish again :)

and

shut up mini magic, your talking rubbish again >

(sorry MM, didn't mean to pick on you  )

Awww silly you! :P

You cant get any more un-technical than miss Raz! Have you not seen my project thread :)

Stay on TMF, its not about what you know, its about who you know, and Im sure you have noticed that a lot of people on here are very helpful with ideas and also fixing things.

Plus you will learn. When I first started to drive, the amount of blonde comments I used to say, and things that I didnt understand, but I have learnt a fair bit (for a girl anyway :yinyang: ) and am still learning! (Thats not to say I dont still have blonde comments or moments, because I do, and Im sure Jammy will agree  )

Anyway.....TMF is about minis and also general chat about our interests and hobbies, as well as having a bit of a laugh. Ill miss you and your funny comments if you leave :yinyang:

Stayyyyy

Love Razberry and Monty :dozing:

Glad to see you have changed your mind :) As people have already said its not all about fixing Minis and knowing everything about them! Its about bringing Mini owners together, everyone has to start somewhere (including the experts!). I'm sure your presence would be missed if you did decide to leave.

There are lots of subforums on here so people will always have something they can contribute to :P Its nice to get to know fellow Mini owners and meet up at shows aswell. And there are plenty of people on here that are good at giving out advice to help fix our Mini's. Its only a few people who are moaning about the forum changing, don't worry about it! Everyone is welcome here. I don't know a great deal about the technical side of Mini's but I am learning slowly
