Hey, just a quick one!

When I took the Clubby off the road in October i transferred my insurance onto a J reg Polo 1043cc. Because I was on a classic 'Mini' scheme with my policy, they absolutely nailed me on a premium, charging me nearly £160 more than I was paying on a modded 1275 Mini, just because the car was a Mini.

Now I've got Lucy my 1990 Cooper, do you think they'll charge me again or offer me a refund on some of my premium? I don't mind paying admin charges of say £25 to do this, if they'll offer me some sort of a refund because i'm going back to a Mini.

What do you think?

Tom

PS - the Mini is unmodified, apart from a RC40 exhaust, and K&N cone filter.

i would of thought so, although it work the other way round for me (19, been driving 10 months). I just swapped my insurance from my 1425 to a 1.3 Escort and although the Escort is a higher insurance group I'll be getting some of my money back!!!

Can you have a non-Mini insured on a Mini specialist policy then?

Would be handy if you could as at the mo my 106 is sat uninsured on the driveway and Im driving my boyfriends car. Didnt want to start a new policy and then have to cancel it a month down the line when I do (eventually) get my Mini.

Well, kind of, I've been with MiniWorld insurance and I've just changed over to a Escort, but as MiniWorld insurance is provided by HIC it will be HIC who cover me, it'll be interesting to see whether my new insurance papers come through on MiniWorld headed paper!!

I'm with HIC and I moved my mini insurance to a BMW E30 325i and it didn't cost me a penny! I then bought another mini and changed it back, listed all mods and it cost me £25 admin fee!

I now have a mini and the Beemer insured with HIC - I have nearly 7 year NCB on the mini and they took this into account when I reinsured the Beemer so both cars are costing me about £280! The Mini is Fully COmp with and agreed insurance value of £3k and the Beemer is 3rd party F&T!

If you have a non mini then it is always a good idea to try and get your mini insurer to provide a quote! they may give you discount based on your other policies NCB!

Yeah it is a bit of a tank to say the least. Its his works car and a bit different to my 106. Its good but Im used to putting my foot down and just going, where as this thing needs a gentle nudge to get it moving faster. Not very nice when you try and nip out into a gap and expect to just go!! :saywhat: lol

I will deffo phone up tomorrow, if I cant have my Mini just yet, my 106 is much better then the diseasel!

coughs and sneazles spreads diseasels

Yes Adrian Flux insured my Polo, but like I said, hammered me on the policy. I'm going to try them tommorrow see what they can do with the Mini.

Once my 2nd year NCB arrives in June i'm going to go with Miniworld/HIC, as I'll have 2 minis and no other cars.

Well in the end it didn't cost anything. I was entitled to a £20 refund, so they just kept that as the administration charge. All seems fair to me. That still means with AF i'm paying about £900 fully comp on a 1275 Cooper! Still seems a bit steep to me when HIC were quoting me £600 fully comp on a modded 1293 Clubman, all mods declared!

I'll definitely be going to MW/HIC in June.

thanks for the advice everyone.

Tom
