Before you pack your camera be sure to take a couple of pictures of your distributor showing the wire colors and connections. Have a good vacation and be sure to revive this thread on your return!

Welcome back. I hope you had a good vacation.

I see nothing obviously wrong with the coil wiring. It looks like you've got a white wire feeding the coil and therefore the red Ignitor wire. That's good as it should be a full +12V. The disconnected white/black wire shouldn't be causing a problem... but just to be sure, make sure tape up the the disconnected spade lugs on it.

I remember an acquaintance reporting similar problems with a Lumenition unit. He eventually found the problem was associated with the crimp terminals on the module's spade lugs. It wouldn't hurt to replace the crimp connectors you've got just to see if that's it.

If I remember correctly, you said MED put this engine together so presumably they did everything right concerning the wiring and the distributor. Your dizzy is a later one than I'm familiar with. Still, one thing to check INSIDE the distributor is that there is a high-flex ground wire running from the breaker plate to the dizzy shell. If that's missing (on the older distributors) the ground connection can be rather problematic and make the Ignitor perform unpredictably.

Check your manifolds!

Mine did something very similar. Does it seem to get worse under load?

My two exhaust manifold bolts were less than finger tight! Tightened them up fully and it helped loads, ordered a new gasket and I'm hoping it will fix it fully.

Mine revs up to about 5k before she starts fluttering, then about 4k in second and progressively worse in 3rd and 4th.

I've spoken to a couple of people who have had similar problems and apparently it can be caused by worn steady bars that allow the engine to rock a little, causing the manifolds to loosen up.
