I am giving very serious consideration to getting a pet. I have never minded spiders and recently visited a pet shop at Porton that had some awesome ones. They also had a god range of reptiles.

I was just wondering if anyone on here had an any unusual pets?

I have ferrets :shifty: Best pet ever invented... Other than my two dogs, hamster and the cat!
Me and my boyfriend are looking at getting turtles or a snake when we move out. We shall see though!

snakes are great pets! so long as you get them used to being handled enough when young. I have one now, along with 2 guinea pigs and my doggy! As always said, just make sure you consider it carefuly, you can afford it and have the time/space etc.

As for the snake, that would be cool. Any particular kind?

Ferrets, although cool, are not the kind of pet I'm after really. I have had cats and hamsters in the past. If I had my own house, I would consider getting a white Alsatian as they look absolutely gorgeous.

Do you know how much spiders cost? They range from about 20 quid to 60 or 70. I saw a nice black furry one there but can't remember the name of it. I think I am going to phone them up tomorrow so I can research it a bit.

you need to get yourself down to a proper reptile shop, and have a good chat with them about what you want, your budget and capabilities. for example pythons can make very good pets, but can also grow to 6foot+! Degus are good, same too are iguanas. I had a scorpion, that was cool. seriously, you should be able to find somewhere who will be more than happy to chat to you for a few hours about anything an everything reptile, if they are not then they cant be any good. corn snakes and milk snakes are good first snakes. I could go on...

Yeah I didn't speak to them when I was in there but certainly the staff there seemed knowledgable. I overheard a couple of them speaking to potential customers - I think they all specialise in different areas.

They had some very funny parrots there. It kept saying w*****. They had degus there too. Its probably the best pet shop I have ever been to.

degus arent weird! i wouldnt have said so anyway. they look like chinchillas but slightly different. ive had most widely available rodents in the past but the best by far are rats. relatively cheap, not very demanding yet very friendly and rewarding. but every pets friendly and rewarding with the right handling. as for going a bit more weird such as reptiles and spiders ive never had them so cant really help, but id like them at some point. weirdest ive had were giant african snails, they were fun :shifty:

Snail slime is good for verucas. :shifty:

Im not kidding - I had one when I was younger and my step-dad put snail slime on it and it was gone really quickly. I think they should put it in Bazukka or whatever it is called.

I had a chinchilla he was great! but really hard work, almost as much as the doggy. Sounds like that pet place is really good, its always nice knowing they care! plan to spend a whole morning in there, and try going in when its quieter. and see what they suggest, and how you get on with them. I imagine theyll do a show and tell for you if you wanted.
