how is the rear inner arch held in ? By spotwelds i presume ?

Yeah im sure they are attached by spot welds! majority of panels in a mini are spot welded mate.

Yes, the top section of the arch is welded to the inner side section, and I think it's spot welded around the edge of the outer arch too.. Can't think how they are fixed at either end, but it must be spots as well. Have a look and it should be obvious, if it's not all covered in underseal!

Ive just nipped into the workshop and had a lookie, and yes it's all spot welded as far as I can see.

is it spot welded from inside the boot onto the bootfloor or spotwelded underneath to under the boot floor from a flange if that makes sense ?

If you can wait until tomorrow morning mate I'll take some pictures for you, as I have a brand new bootfloor and rear arch in the workshop, so it wont be a problem taking some pics for you!

using a file is NOT a bodge, files were the only tool available and have been used since spot welders were invented untill some bright spark made a tool for dressing that had the teeth for cutting made in a circle at the right angle (using the same principle as a file for removing metal)
the dressing tool made it quicker to dress the tips but files are still used through out the industries using spot welding machines.
i keep forgetting just because i am old that what was good enough for years is now a bodge, when people who were not even born when we all used files decides that files were allways a bodge tool.

Hey, sorry I didn't post this yesterday but my friend had a nasty accident yesterday in her car so my mind wasn't exactly on the forum

Anyway here goes.


The red dots show where you will be able to spot weld the new arch from underneath the car with ease.


Again red dots show where you can use the spot welder again to attach the arch to the rear quarter panel.


This area also requires welding (blue dots) but you wont be able to do with with a spot welder, therefore a mig is probably easiest here for you. The four blue dots which area furthest to the left will only be required if you replace that bracket, which you most probably wont need to do, so you can ignore those, lol


Also this area of the arch needs to be welder to the back seat panel and rear bin etc. Also there is further welding within the rear door bin, but not much.

Hope that gives you a better idea mate.

And if you want to see a rear arch or a pair being replaced have a look in the 25’s project thread in my signature, and to be honest there a right pain in the arse to remove, fit and weld in place.
