unlucky, there is a fair bit of fillering necessary to get a seamed mini to look right.

Make sure the surface you're putting filler on is free from rust/grease or any other contaminant, and is abraded. Never put filler over shiny anything, or it will fall off. ideally you shouldn't put filler over paint, so bare metal the area you wish to fill over. Rub it down starting with 80 grit, go down to 120 or 180, then finish in 180 or 240. 240 is better if you're not using a high build primer. Use a bulk filler like Upol Fantastic or if you're on a budget, EasyOne or EasySand. For the last skim of filler use polyester stopper, to fill in any pinholes or imperfections. Upol Topstop Gold is fine. Then prime as usual.

Is it just bare blasted metal? if so it'll stick to that brilliantly.

I'd give it a rub with 80 grit, just to be on the safe side, can't really say without seeing it.
