I painted my rocker cover last night. It's been in the garage all night (cold) and the paint is just about dry, but at the bottom it really isn't hard enough.

Is it ok to put it in a fan oven for a bit?

If so, what temp and how long?

If this is a good idea. When I do the top of the rocker cover. How long should I leave it to dry before putting it in the oven?

Thanks,

Ed.

half hour on a 60 degree bake should be fine in your oven.

Then garnish with some fresh herbs and and serve with a multigrade and shallot sauce.

Right, it's in the oven.

Not sure about the herbs, I think an oil filler cap on the top would make it tastier.

When I'm painting the other side, do you think it's a good idea to heat up to 50-60c before painting?

And then do the same, leave overnight, then 30mins in oven?

Personnaly i would only paint the outside of it due to heat and oil contamination, when the engine is run up to heat it may flake. I would strip the inside back to metal as it was. But yes okay to bake in oven very low bake or if you have a fan heater sit it about 3 foot away in a corner aaiming at the cover this always works for me

Hmm that's a bit annoying. It was originally painted on the inside, but I see your point.

I think I'll leave it as it is for the moment and perhaps strip it in a few weeks. I've really had enough of paint stripping this week!

Oven baking worked a treat!

Paint feels really tough.

I'm ready to do the other side now!

I used zinc primer and painted it with something that halfords mixed up for me (not sure what type of paint it it), thinned 60% with cellulose thinners.

You really must remove the paint it will react with the hot oil and the fact that you didn't use an etch primer for alloy it will peel off for sure

Ok thanks, I'll make sure to remove it on the inside.

Can you recommend any alloy etch primers (and a link to a site that sells them)? I want to restore some alloy wheels soon so it would def be good to get the right stuff on future refurbs.

Thanks,

Ed.

So am I right in thinking that etch for alloy is the same as etch for steel?

Yep should do the same job!

And by the way, alot of/ most paint products are manufactured by U-POL, for other brands.
