Decided after having the turbo'd clubby as my daily for the past few years that it was time for a change and time for more power/less weight so got meself a £600 crx to use instead. Trouble is now i've got it i want to make it go a bit quicker because i was used to the power of the mini..

found it on ebay, about a mile from my house. Went and had a look, agreed on a price then picked it up christmas eve. got it insured for £260 which i couldn't believe thanks to good old confused.com (HIC wanted just under a grand, i insure the mini with them for £300, almost swalowed a bollock when they quoted me)

This is how it looked when i picked it up

It had had a front end shunt so had a white bonnet, silver slam panel and a black bumper.

managed to get a couple of cans of red which are an almost perfect match so painted the bumper. I couldn't be arsed with all the prep and effort of getting a good rattle can finish on something as big as the bonnet so out came the satin black.

It came with a powerflow custom stainless exhaust (drainpipe) that sounded gash and was just a peashooter pipe coming from the backbox that flared out to a 5" tip. looked toss and sounded even worse.

Picked up a backbox for a decent price and went round my mates because he's borrowing me welder and we set about making our own exhaust again.

This is what we took off

and replaced it with this, which has got a removeable bung in it to stop it sounding like a barry mobile.

Other than that i haven't done much to it other than drive it and have fun to be honest. It's been remapped and a filter fitted so its running 141bhp, 11 up on std. Took it to a Honda rolling road day so that i'd got an idea of where i was starting from.

Need to get a few more things sorted though, going to change the wheels for something a little more jap. Get rid of the makro cheapo bucket seats. Fix the rust on the rear arches and sunroof. Fit a proper set of springs and shocks and get rid of the lowering springs because the ride is a bit harsh at the minute and has screwed the front camber.

After that its time to start messing with the engine. It's got a D16a9 at the minute which is a 1.6 16v DOHC, i'm still unsure whether it'll stay nat asp or i'll end up turboing it. The only certain thing is that it'll be getting a B series (vtec) engine at some point in the future :-

It's amazing the difference a decent camera can make, went to a local car meet on sunday morning and my mate took a few pics with his SLR.

i do think the CRX's look good and if you ever wrap it around a lamp post I'm sure you can find a home for its engine :-

not really, although more and more parts of the mini keep finding their way onto honda.

Now stolen the recaros from the mini and fitted them which has made it much more comfy, yoinked the head unit and components from the mini aswell.

Just going to try and save some cash up now ready for the MOT next month incase anything needs fixing.

Looks good, how did the bonnet finish end up like?

I know what you mean about the powerflow systems. I made the mistake of paying for a second hand one. Terrible fitting, didn't sound toooo bad when first fitted, but sounds aweful now.

bonnets turned out ok now after another couple of coats, need to put another coat or two on the bumper though when the weather gets a bit better.

got the MOT after the riv run so looks like i'll be fixing the back arches if it fails on them, then i might spray the car satin black rather than try to blend in new paint.

my mate had a powerflow jobby on his prelude and it was great, couldn't fault it at all but i think thats because we stood there while it was made/fitted. The one on mine was really hashed, i'm dreading fitting a 4-2-1 manifold because they've just welded straight onto the downpipe...

Could you fit the D16Z6 head to this? That's a VTEC aint it?

Looks good though, I always liked these back in the day.

no idea if it'd fit but its only a single cam vtec, my mates got one in his civic (might be the d16y8) and we've given them a test and he couldn't keep up. Mines got a lot more low down torque and by the time his hits vtec i'm long gone.

not really done much to the car lately, just painted the bump strips round the car body coloured and fitted an OMP front strut brace.

The MOT is up in july so next month i'll be attacking the rusty back arches and welding in some fresh metal, plus the weather should be a bit nicer then seeing as the minis tuked up in the garage and the honda won't fit.
