Since my car went to get the bodywork done, the coil was removed for the welding, now, when i got the car back, the coil hadn't been fiotted back on the car. So, i tried to make some sense of it using the Haynes manual, but it doesn't say what side of the coil is + and which is -....

So........

Can i ask where the wiring goes on the coil?

If memory serves me right, there's 2 x white with black trace, a black wire coming from the points, and another terminal with 2 wires, pink and yellow and white and yellow (i think)

Where do they go? I had a look and the coil i have has 2 male spade terminals on both the + and - side of the coil, but i think some of the wiring has male spade terminals too, also, there used to be a surpressor wired in too which was connected to the coil bracket, any ideas where that goes to aswell?

I can get pics tomorrow if it makes things easier?

Ta in advance.

I can only answer part of your questions.
Yes, the yellow/white wire indicates you have a ballast ignition coil/system. Both the yellow/white and the pink wires go to the terminals on coil (+).

The black/white wires should go on coil (-). One should go off to the tachometer, the other... normally goes to the terminal on the side of the distributor (connected internally to the points).

A black wire coming from the points? Outside the distributor? A suppressor outside the distributor? Is this a Ducelier (forgive the spelling) distributor? I'm at a bit of a loss here. I don't know what these wires are for or how they should connect.

The black wire is the one coming from the distributor cap, i think it connects to the + terminal on the coil i have been told

cheers for the help dude

The black wire should connect to one of the two white/black wires a short distance down the loom from the coil, right by the dizzy rather than running all the way to the coil. That's what one of the white/black wires is there for.

The supressr lead is fitted to the coil primary positive and the supressor body trapped under one of the coil securing screws.

It's the cranking bypass for the ballast resistor and is the whole reason that ballasted ignition exists.

It provides a burst of 12v +ve when cranking the engine to start, but when you dissengage the starter, returns to the 8v ballast voltage supplied by the pink wire.

Right, I'll do the FAQ this weekend! There is still dis-information.

That would be great if it's nice and clean and standard (and you can take a photo, I'm amazed how many people post photos that are so out of focus or over/under exposed as to be useless), just for the sake of clarity. My own car won't be much use in that respect, it's rather non-standard!

Well i forgot the camera, but my phone has a 5mp one on it, so fiddled about with the ISO, macro and white balance to try and get some clear pics, to be honest though, they're no good, i'll take my SLR with me tomorrow and get some better ones...

Here's the ones i took. I'll try and label them as best i can.

Pink with white trace & yellow with white trace on the female spade, and the white with black trace on the male spade

Can some one please tell me what the surpressor does.

Trying to solve an issue with my tacho and don't think i've got a surpressor fitted to my car.
