Has anyone else seen the new italian job? Is it me, or does the plot just not make any sense? In the original, the whole idea behind using the cooper was so that the getaway through the Turin traffic would be easy, as well as the sewer driving ect. In the new film they could have got away with people carriers! Why did they use bini's? I know, only so that they could call it the Italian Job, but come on! Thoughts?

I think this has been covered a few times before.. i watched it for free at BMW plant Oxford (they built a cinema inside the production area!!! >_< ) There was free popcorn and they unveiled the Mini Convertible at the same time.

I fell asleep and never did see the end.

Why did they use bini's?

Probably because BMW payed the producers a lot of money. Product placement is very common in films these days.

There is a sequel currently in production, The Brazilian Job. There are very few details on this film, even the Wikipedia page on it seems to have disappeared.

That makes sense i suppose, but during the production of the original, all the coopers were payed for in full by the production team. Fiat offered to give as many cars as was needed free of charge if the film was made using their cars instead, but the producers and directors knew that using mini's was the best way to make the film.
I suppose that next we will see Top Gun 2, using euro fighters, funded by the european union, to promote the plane. I wonder who would star in that one? lol >_<

well they use the new minis becuase they were correct for the "LA hiest" i personally thought the film was mint, where as the original is very boring and overrated.

No because BMW will have used the film as a marketing tool. GM payed $3,000,000 to have the Autobots transform into GM cars in the recent Transformers film.

The "Bini" was used as IIRC the mini was never sold in the US when origianally released. Therefore they used the Bini as it was their mini.

Last i heard the sequal was using the new Beetle?!?! >_< (Why not use the Lupo, much cooler and much smaller too.)
but as you said, its all gone rather quiet

I will have to disagree with you there. We are talking about two very different era's.

The opening to the original italian job is great, and it holds its own even against new, modern films of today.

Its personally one of my favourite films, i know im biased due to the main star, (the mini, not Michael Caine), but to appreciate the film you just need to look at the lenghts that were went to in order to make it. The traffic jam in turin actually happened just for the film!

A bit old and outdated, definatley. Overrated, definatley not. :D

Like I have said in the other thread, I quite like it. I also think with the classic Mini being such an iconic car, it was inevitable that a new Itlian Job film be made.

Whatever anyone thinks of the Bini, it is still one of the better front wheel handling cars around today. It is also kind of unique.

Whatever anyone says, the Bini has had a significant impact and is a good selling car.

I also believe it is the only front wheel drive car made by BMW.

Yeup, that's why Ford paid an obscene ammount for the new Mondeo (just befor it was launched) to be in the first 5 mins of the last Bond film.
