Hello all,
I have a problem with my brakes. I have the metro 4 pot calipers on my car. The car had solid disks on it when i got it. I am trying to replace the disks and pads. I would like to put vented disks on my mini but im not sure if they will fit without any further modification. Also when looking on Mini Spares i see a Disk set with pads (MS39). The pads are look exactly like what came off of my car. Will the Vented rotors fit on my mini? Im going to get some pics on to help anyone out who my help me with the info i need.
Thanks

Vented discs are identical to non-vented apart from the vents and some spacing adjustments for them. You won't get any more stopping power, just less susceptability to fade. You'd need calipers, discs and drive flanges if you did swap.

vented discs won't fit onto non vented calipers, although there is a kit which includes a set of spacers which go between the two calipers halves. this will enable you to fit vented discs....

you will need a set of vented discs, caliper spacers and i think you will also be in need of a new set of pistons....(they look full of rust :S)

not sure about the drive flanges though....but i think they are different....

this is the link for the spacers if you like http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=42224

no....everything seems fine....you must know that naturally aspirated(non turbo) metros were fitted with solid discs and turbo ones had vented dics....they had two different calipers....one with spacers and one without....yours are the ones which were fitted to non turbo metros.....

another thing....have you tried removing those pistons???

well minispares has basicaly everything you'll need, but i found these pistons really impressive...

link

quite expensive for onyl a set of pistons but must say they are extremely lightweight and more durable than stainless steel

be carefull about splitting the caliper halves to put spacers in, there was talk of this in another thread i was involved with and someone pointed out the possible safety problems of splitting the halves and installing a spacer, you might be better off getting some turbo calipers that are factory made for vented discs, as there could be problems with the mating of the seal of the spacer and the correct torque value of the nuts that hold everything together may be a long lost rover secret by now... the general message i took from the thread was, unless your very confident that you know what your doing then brakes might not be an area to experiement with.

vented drive flanges are thinner than the non vented type, i have some vented one, and noticed just how different they looked compared to the vented type when i saw a metro in there that had vented calipers...shame it was resting on the discs under another car or i would have had them

they also have wheel locating lugs on them

heres a pic
