Seamus, I really like the look of that and the price is good too.

Do you have the 12" version?

I made my way back to the garage and carried on for a while. Eventually I made something that was just about good enough.

Tacked it in, then carefully welded round the rest.

Now that I've had my lunch, I think I'll go and do a bit of grinding!

I'm using 0.8mm steel. Whenever I'm doing any external body work I tend to find that I never get the desired results with anything thicker.

For floors etc I am happy using 1mm.

When you get down to 0.8mm you do have to start being really quite careful with your welding.

After a few labourious hours of careful grinding and an odd bit of sanding it's now looking ok.

Looking from the other side, I've seen a few pin prick holes, so I'll weld those up in the week. Also the shape isn't quite right yet, so I'll try and profile it all with the sander.

After I've done that I've got the other side to do. I think that's gonna be a bit more tricky because I'll have to make up a repair panel with two bends in it again, but it's a smaller area, so bending a smaller bit of sheet is gonna be tricky :S

It pretty much took all of Sunday.

Making a repair panel takes most of the time. The welding is the reasonably easy bit and then the grinding flat takes a long time to get everything looking right,

looking good yeah its the tacking before grinding and beating after welding that makes the perfect repair. If i were doing such a repair i would have probably brought it down a little further avoiding welding the swage line they can take so much time to grind down and bring back straight but everyone workes different. But all said it does look a nice finnish.
