whats the diffrence between the pre 97' headlamp rings and the later type ones?

I've got 3 tins of stella left and I'm not sure if thats enough ?

the 97 onwards were hexagon shaped and smellt of leerdam cheese
actually they only smelt of leerdam cheese until august 12th 1998, after that they smelt of vicks vapour rub

unlike anorak smells of engine oil and babybell chese and a hit of southern fried northen smoked anti freeze
