What a difference a rolling road tune can make. After I was having so many problems with my Bill Richards mini, I rang Bill and he suggested a rolling road tune, which is what it had yesterday. Went and picked it up yesterday evening, and after having driven an Escort and not the mini for nearly a month it felt great to be back in the mini. In fact I had forgotten what power was, and everything felt so precise again!!!
Anyway, it was explained that because of the cam I have, the engine runs a bit rich up it hits the power band at 2.5/2.6k, therefore its not suited for my 1.4 mile daily commute in a moderate amount of traffic! It was also running a bit rich throughout which is why it kept screwing spark plugs. Anyway £45 has had my mini on a rolling road, power tested (I'll post the graph later on) and the problem sorted which I think is money well spent!!
Results of the power test show that it has about 95bhp at the flywheel, which I thought was rather low, however the guy said that he would expect this kind of figure?!
Now, I'm thinking I may change the cam over to one that isn't so wild. But I'm not too sure. What you guys think. Still not sure whether I'm going to use it for everyday driving (with changed cam) or whether to keep it as my play thing?! Maybe you guys can help me decide?

The flywheel figure is only an approximation, on a RR you should have a real power at wheels figure.
*Edit*
And 95 flywheel, I'd be disgusted if that's what I got back on the spec engine you have, that's shocking.

But really, I'd love to drive it everyday, not sure though. I'm thinking that if I use a cam that will allow me to drive it everyday, I may lose some serious power elsewhere, will have to talk to Bill about it.
And I'm pretty sure that what Andy (guy at RR) said, I will check the paperwork since this does seem quite low. Even at the wheels its quite low.

Haven't rang Bill yet, will do in an hour or two when I have my lunch. If I'm going to change the cam then Bill can sort out the oil. If not I'll sort it out myself.

Special Optimax card?! If I'm gonna keep it lairy, then it will have to just be something I use on journeys of a half decent distance, where I won't encounter too much traffic!! In which case I'll probably stick the webber back on as well!!
Also, does anyone no much about insurance, since I want to look at driving two cars, does any insurance company still allow you to have two cars on one policy?!

Footman James are doing me a policy with two cars for when i finish the pickup. They only added £100 for an extra car as they said if im driving one i cant be driving the other.

I didn't think Footman James would touch anything modified? I enquired for a laugh at what it would cost to cover my R1 minus and they said they don't touch modified cars
Optimax card. Basically like a points card but because I used soo much optimax they used to give me triple points as a thankyou!
Wasn't too bad in about 6 months earned about £50 worth of vouchers.

Yep, rang him about the cam and the oil, he said putting in a milder cam isn't a problem, but since its an engine out, and gearbox off job its going to cost me £400 plus parts for each or both jobs.
