Im looking out for a new shell (not brand new but reconditioned- wings etc replaced so good as new). However, this will be my first project and i want to make sure i dont get ripped off. Assuming the shell APPEARS to be in sound condition to the inexperienced eye. What things should i be looking out for and how can i tell if its been sealed from rust properly? Are there any organisations out there that you can pay to come and inspect a potential purchase? The AA do it but they charge £122!!!

Many thanks.

if your buying a second hand shell you should be looking for a V5 with it unless your going the SVA and Q reg route

Where abouts is the shell that you are looking to buy?

You may find a TMF member who will pop and have a nose at it for you?

....and at least two original major assemblies from the car. Rebuilding a car from a second hand bare shell with all the parts coming from other sources and trying to keep its original identity is called ringing and is illegal.
