If 3 of the plugs have come out a browny colour and the 4th black i wouldn't say it's running tooo bad... if you are getting 30 miles to £20 of fuel with the plugs the colour you say they are then i would definantly say you have a leak of somone is syphoning it out of your tank...

its on a carb, and i dont think the exhaust is standard, when i bought the car, the owner told me it had a stage one kit on it, but i have no idea how to tell if it is standard or not, the back can is not the standard can, and the mainifold is 3 branch ( the 2 center ones are joined together then meets up with the two out side one (if this makes sense)), and thats all i can tell you about the exhaust, its not blowing either,
the tank is not leaking and neither is the pump by the engine or any of the pip working around the engine, so if its lleaaking its somewhere under the car, is this a common fault where should i look???
thanks again

look at the joints just after the subframe and also the joint just before it goes into the fuel pump,

my number 3 plug was oily black and showed head gasket leak, it maybe just that that cylinder is getting a bit more fuel than the other 3. is the plug gap the same on them all?

what colour is the smoke coming out of the exhaust? at idle and when revved?....

the gaps are all about same, however when i put the plugs back in, it was running on only 3 cylinders 1 3 4, a(nd it was fine before i took them out)the spark plug in 2 was the problem, i have but new plugs in and it back of 4 now,
when the cars using alot of revs, it gives out bluey/ blackish smoke, however it only does this when at high revs, at idle there is hardly and smoke, if ther is its greyish colour/ black ish colour, its defianetely burning oil, that for sure,
i will check those places you suggest, and thanks again
simon
