Primer is pourous, and the Mini will rust from underneth the paint, and outwards.what it is i have a fibreglass flip front which i am going to put on when the father in law goes to florida so i can use his drive (very large area outside his house) with out him moaning or trying to help,so just thought i would spray it in gray primer and leave it like that also got a rust free door to go on as well same idea, scruffy but cool

paint it in a rust-proof paint first. Like Red Oxide.anyway round that?Primer is pourous, and the Mini will rust from underneth the paint, and outwards.what it is i have a fibreglass flip front which i am going to put on when the father in law goes to florida so i can use his drive (very large area outside his house) with out him moaning or trying to help,so just thought i would spray it in gray primer and leave it like that also got a rust free door to go on as well same idea, scruffy but cool
Red Oxide will be a good one in fact, as when the car gets scrached and knocked the red will show, and add to the look.

Been down this road many of times, just wish I could afford to run two reliable Minis so I can have one that I can rat properly. But I think I might join the VW's instead.

Rust holes? Weld a patch. Oxide. Primer. Done. No need to worry about mis-matched panels.
Exhaust fallen off? Weld it back on, don't buy a new one.
Over time it's look will evolve.

well said sir!!!!!!I think Dog put it best on here once before. The best sort of Rat look is a proper rat look. Where your car has just slowly turned into a heap and you do minimal work to keep it on the road.
