But what if, hypothetically speaking, a new company started making a product using exactly the same materials, exactly the same drawings and specifications as an established brand but at a reduced cost? Would you still buy the expensive ones?

(Sprocket....I take your point, just wanted to make sure people reading this thread didn't think the products were Chinese!)

I'd have to go along with OSB. If I were building an engine costing a few thousand pounds (which lets be honest is the only type engine that would warrant this type of rod) I'd get the tried and tested component everytime, even if it was a bit more expensive.

And I think this topic has highlighted the fact that these cheap rods aren't built to the same material specification as the more expensive Arrow, Corrillo.

If those rods in Jake's piccies started out as one of those lengths of bar they're sat amongst they aren't just chopped out of billet. I've no idea what 'fit for purpose' would mean in relation to a race spec engine. I'm sure that Nuneaton machine shop would be very keen to prove the suitability of their products. Can they offer any test data or testimonials from the racetrack?
