Hi,

Which turbo diesel engine would fit into a standard mini front?

I want a really tuneable engine that can give me at least 200bhp with loads of torque.

Thinking of putting one in a mini, winding the boost up and having a sequential gearbox too.

Should be very very fast on acceleration then.

First find one which will accept a sequential box... but if you want reliability go for a VAG or PSG diesel

Which would you say are the better? , VAG or PSG?

Im probably going to be restricted to a 1.4 or lower due to the size of it? , but the 2.0 td golf engine would be amazing if it would fit.

i have always liked the 1.4 from the lupo, there was a pick up with a slightly extended roundnose front with a 1.5 diesel from the metro/106

Peugeot Citroen is actually PSA, but we won't go into that!

VAG, all very well, to fit into a mini the Polo is prob best.

if your going to all the trouble why settle for a 1.4, you'd be over taken by the milkman AND his grandmother!!

and the vibrations that'll run through the car, you'd be better off doing it properly with on of the PROPER VAG 2'0L TD's

above is only my opnion

one minute you want 200bhp from a diesel then the next you only want a 1.4?

the only "sensible" (ie not the diesel R8) production diesel that will do 200bhp is the 1 series bmw 123D, 205bhp , due to twin turbo variable vane set up.

vag 1.9 TDI IIRC can be mapped to about 180, 190 bhp without internal mods. with mega money you can get 250brake

I beg to differ, currently working on the new transit, and the new engine line up is astounding!

erm, i said "production". if its in development, then it can't be transplanted into a mini can it? and if its the new V8 or V6 diesels that are the Ford-PSA-Jaguar-landrover variations, then i think they are a tad large to go in a mini.

don't recall any current ford 4 cyl diesels that can match VAG or BMW diesels. IIRC the "duratorq" diesel are rehashed Endura's with common rail tech. also IIRC they only go up to 150brake. even the 2.2L is still down on power

get one of those 1.4 blue motion VAG engines. 3cylinders, low emissons and 75mpg i think. road tax is 35quid a year!

Ive been in a 1.5td and it felt ok , but would probably feel fast in a light mini.

I would much prefer to have a big engine in (if i could fit it in) , just for the fact it would be sooo much faster.

Is there a 2 litre td engine thats tuneable, fast and reliable that exists?

Just to put my opinion in.

The 1.5 engine is dreadfull. Noisy, none revving and agricultural. The NVH (Noise and Vibrations) if it were fitted to a mini would be dreadfull without a serious investment into rubber engine and subframe mounts.
Nothing sounds like or returns the crisp response of a 4 stroke petrol engine.
