Don't know if anyone else has come across these but look like the answer to that 'metric' vs 'Imperial' problem so many people have with Minis..

Sockets which fit both ( and a lot more )

Made by King willy ( a renowned quality tool maker ) called Powerbuilt Spearhead and come with a lifetime warrenty

I bought one to have a play with, cost about £10 ex vat

it fits 29mm 1.1/8" and E36, but also square and 12 point heads.

Similar claims were made for the metri-inch range of tools, unfortunately it just meant that that they didn't fit anything properly!!

They look like a less brutal version of these

I've got a set of the above and they are brilliant at removing damaged/rounded/rusty bolts and nuts, especially good a mini door hinges!!

Interested to know how you get on

It's sort of like two 6 point sockets in one, so yes you do need to ensure you have the socket positioned correctly on the head of the nut/bolt for the right size, but when you get it right you know as it's a snug fit. Also the more modern disign which drives on the flats rather than the corners....

They are fairly new to the market and I havn't found any supplier on the internet as yet...

I'm not convinced about this. 29mm & 1 1/8" are different sizes, anything that claims to fit both will probably just fit both badly.

I don't see why anyone would have a "metric v imperial problem" with a Mini. 95% of nuts on a Mini are imperial. Just buy yourself a set of decent imperial tools that will fit properly. On the very rare occasion you may need a metric tool, just go and buy yourself a cheap single tool for the job.

Maybe a few of us have both a Mini and a second car...

You not quite getting it....

A 29mm head will ONLY fit one way into the socket... providing a perfect fit

A 1.1/8" (28.6mm approx) fit's two ways but one is a little slack and one is that perfect fit...

anyway... just thought I'd make people aware of a new tool on the market... I don't sell 'em

I bought a huge set of these from Walmart in Florida a few weeks back for about $20!

Well I own a Mini (imperial) and a Renault (Metric) as an everyday car. I just have a set of imperial tools and a set of metric. It's not expensive to have a set of each, probably cheaper than buying a set of these new tools.

However I do seem to have misunderstood how these tools work. If they fit on 2 ways, one for metric and one for imperial then it seems a good idea.

The Metrinch stuff was my weapon of choice for rusty exhaust fittings

Only issue with Guessworks find would be using it without a ratchet. wouldn't mind a piccy with a nut in it to see where it drives.

OOH harsh! There are more of us old VDub fans out here than you might think!
I like the idea as I find it difficult to work with imperial sizes. To me an 1/8" is actually 3mm (or there abouts!).
